The Schumer Shutdown will take effect at 12:01 am after two measures to avert the government shutdown failed in the Senate.
The measures needed 60 votes to pass. The GOP-backed measure failed to pass in a 55-45 vote – Rand Paul voted with the Democrats.
Update: Republicans Senators blocked the Democrats’ proposal to fund healthcare for illegal aliens along party lines 53-47. more
Schumer’s running scared of AOC taking over. That’s a big part of this. I can’t wait until AOC does take over. Humor off the hook.
Sure he is, wanna bet BOY!
I’m reading Rand Paul voted no. Please someone confirm. If true this dumb shit needs to be primaried. Yesterday.
Nope he knows better unlike you.
Going going gone. Let it begin.

Force these aholes to continue
to come to work during the shutdown.
I’m all for them to hold office hours……
from “SunUp to SunDown.”
FAFO.
It would be a shame if the shutdown stopped them from digging their holes.
I just hope the Republicans stick to their guns and beat back the wasteful spending the democrats want.
jizyah-boy scum-er & its faithful negro sidekick, hack-eem: keep skng illegal alien dk, bitches.
easier: weld capitol? bathroom doors shut & keep them shut until the loyuh-dskrs do the right thing
In the past, GOP Leadership; Boehner, Ryan, McCarthy, and McCONnell, would abandon U.S. Citizens and roll over to appease the Democrats, every time at our expense.
The GOP track record and failure of the GOP Leadership speaks volumes. Let’s see what Johnson and Thune do.
Thus far Johnson and Thune have been a disappointment, they talk the talk, but don’t walk the talk.
Can GOP break the cycle of abandoning the voters to appease Schumer and Jeffries to fund Socialist programs and Social Justice issues against the majority of U.S. Voters.
If Johnson and Thune roll over for Schumer, Jeffries and the DNC, the cycle continues, and President Trump’s momentum will be stifled.
Past time for Johnson and Thune to grow a pair and put their big boy pants on.
If you have rogues in the ranks, quit playing games, pull their committee assignments and don’t fund their campaigns. If you don’t want to represent the voter mandates? Get punished for your actions.
Be a Leader in this ideological war, Please.
This time we blame it on the democrats. Next time we blame it on the republicans. And around and around it goes, but it never stops. When are we going to put the blame on where it rightfully belongs? ALL OF THE BASTARDS IN CONGRESS!!!
This dispute is over a temporary funding bill that will keep the government operating until a permanent budget can be passed. Some essential government services will continue to be funded during the shutdown, and still others will continue although federal workers will not be paid. Historically, federal workers in non-essential agencies were put on furlough.
This could actually be an opportunity. The administration can take this opportunity to permanently pare down any bloated agencies through terminations instead of furloughs, and still other government agencies can probably be shuttered.
Government bodies have no bottom line, so agencies and functions continue to operate as “business as usual” with generally no worries about whether or not there is any efficiency or need. Agencies and bureaus are created and continue to exist whether or not there is a continuing need, or whether or not there was really a need in the first place. Some government functions just do not work, and this could be an opportunity to get rid of them.
Pretty amazing how the democrats consistently manage to group-think themselves into handing Trump more “Heads I win. Tails you lose.” scenarios. Trump now has an opportunity to cut the federal workforce by more than 10% in head count. And, eventually, a funding package will pass without all that stupid crap the democrats shut down the government for in the first place.
Only time in my memory where the Republicans stuck together was the Obamacare bill which was passed without a single Republican vote.
Wyatt,
However long this shutdown lasts you can count on one thing – the congress critters won’t be skipping a paycheck .
After the shutdown ends, let’s shutdown Congress!
@Geni: Members of Congress should be the first ones to skip the paycheck. Congress should also not be allowed to except themselves from the legislation they pass. Finally, we need term limits.
Approximately zero of these common sense proposals will be enacted – particularly term limits. That pretty much tells you everything you need to know about Congress.
Wyatt, Amen !!
