FOX– A U.S. Coast Guard cutter intercepted a self-propelled semi-submersible vessel engaged in smuggling more than 3,800 pounds of cocaine, federal officials said Sunday.
According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), on November 13, CBP and Marine Operations (AMO) arrested the crew during operations in international waters, and all three suspects will face charges in the U.S.
“The drug cartels are relentless and extremely innovative,” National Air Security Operations Center – Corpus Christi Director Allen Durham said.
“Interdicting self-propelled semi-submersible vessels requires expertise and the right aircraft. Air and Marine Operations will continue to beat the cartels at their own game to protect our borders.”
The multi-day operation from surveillance to interception, according to CBP, involved several interagency partners including the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy.
AMO operates maritime patrol aircraft from Corpus Christi, Texas, and Jacksonville, Florida, to conduct long-range aerial patrols and surveillance missions along the U.S. borders and in drug transit zones in Central and South America, according to CBP.
What do they mean by ‘self-propelled’?
Authorities quarantine all member of crew for possible illness as they all had sniffles when found.
Aren’t most vessels “self-propelled? Do the mean “remotely piloted”? Who edits this shit at the news media?
It gots pedals?
We don’t need no stinkin’ batteries!
The Henley was self propelled too
A leftie was alarmed because the average age of MSM reporters is only 27 years old. Seeing ‘self propelled’ in headline is not surprising. Surprised reporter did not refer to boat as submersible submarine.
So, which weighed more? The cocaine or the batteries?
Remember that this cocaine feeds drug turf wars, murders, corruption, adverse drug events, law enforcement and legal actions, and all other sorts of societal damage.
There is simply no such thing as innocent illicit drug use.
Build the damn wall. Sink the subs. Shoot down the drones. Prosecute the drug mules. Airstrike the labs (screw the sovereignty of foreign nations that cannot control their drug trafficking).
Cocaine!? People still do that? LOL
Self propelled as opposed to rowed, or sail-powered. I can’t remember how long it has been since I saw a rowed submarine.
I used to have a sail-powered sub. I say ‘used to’ because the sails were 100% ineffective underwater.
It could have been an enemy sub. Iran and North Korea both are working on submarine-launched ballistic missiles. Iran has pledged to penetrate the Gulf of Mexico, Russia and China most probably already have.
We need missile defense and anti-satellite squadrons along our South.
Yeah, and kill all cartels like rabid skunks.
Perhaps they meant “self-piloted.”
The cartel needs scared…now they laugh.
Call them enemy combatants and kill them where they stand. They should never see a courtroom.
Start shooting the invaders as they come across the river/border.
Mexico needs to fix their country instead trashing mine.
@Charliewalksonwater: I assume you mean the C.S.S. Hunley, the third submarine of the Confederacy.
@Left Coast Dan: The reason they used the term “self-propelled” is because the cartels have traditionally used unpowered, unmanned submersibles which are towed behind a larger ship, just under the surface of the water. When threatened by Coast Guard interception, they are usually cut loose from the towing cable and allowed to drift off and/or sink.
TO LCD
I figure they meant something like a naval version of a drone http://kpcbweb2.s3.amazonaws.com/content/717/original_drone-reuters-lg.jpg

More money changes hands, more people are killed, more misery is created, by allowing taxation, than by all the cartels, combined.
But don’t let me harsh your “For the children!” buzz.
I can’t believe nobody made a “built for speed” joke yet.
Zilla,
I had a few girl friends like that
before…
Just follow it to the beach, and arrest those that show up!
Wasted opportunity to easily nab a few more. Shoulda asked me.
