Sen. Josh Hawley (R- MO) Pushing One of the Biggest Jobs Programs in History

WFB: Following calls by economists to temporarily “pause” the melting down economy, Sen. Josh Hawley (R., Mo.) in recent weeks debuted a plan to restore millions of jobs on the government dime and is now pushing for his proposal to guide coronavirus relief going forward.

Tens of millions of Americans have lost their jobs to the coronavirus pandemic and concurrent shutdown. The specter of an unprecedented economic depression now looms over each week’s unemployment figures.

Fearing the effects of the economy contracting by up to a third, Congress has appropriated millions of dollars in aid to the newly out of work. But that spending is primarily focused on short-term relief and may be drawing even more people out of the workforce, potentially lengthening and deepening the recession. Hawley’s plan would go further, aiming to restore and then preserve employer-employee connections until the crisis has passed.

“The plan is really simple,” Hawley told the Washington Free Beacon in an interview. “It’s to try to rehire every person who has lost their job because of this health emergency and because of the government shutdown to deal with the health emergency. And it’s to try to protect every job in this country for the duration of this crisis.”

Although straightforward, the plan would amount to one of the biggest bailouts ever devised—a similar plan is projected to cost Denmark 13 percent of its GDP over three months. Hawley’s support for it, then, marks yet another case where the novel coronavirus has pushed a Republican leader to think outside the box economically, marking a change that is likely to last after the crisis is over. read more

  1. If everybody could magically have their jobs back but few have any money to spend, there is no way for businesses to make a profit and meet their payroll. We have introduced chaos into a very complex system. And with most politicians either incompetent or actively trying to destroy the United States out of some twisted hatred, we are in for some very hard times.

  2. Without Government to help ua and provide for us we’d be lost as a nation and even as a people.

Isn’t it really great we have the Republicans from bottom to top to take care of us?

We should all write a letter to our leaders to thank them for it.

  3. ” The solution is death camps for the unemployed … ”

The only reason they’re unemployed is because they are non essential people.

So we need to start asking ourselves “Do we really need to have this kind of people among us dragging the rest of us down?”.

  4. The gov’t shuts everything down and continues to pay gov’t employees while everyone else gets the shaft.

How long is this country going to put up with this?

It makes me ashamed to be an American when America just sits back and takes this shit from it’s “leaders”.

  5. Can’t we add the media to non essential services? If I want to pay someone to mislead and lie to me, I’d just hire a congressman, Senator and my local Board of Education commissioners….oh wait, no wonder we’re broke.

  6. WTH is he talking about?! Here is a novel idea open up the restrictions, let the free market work. People that don’t feel comfortable can stay home or keep their businesses closed.
How about this – if you want to save the economy open it up and prevent any lawsuits being filed against any business/person by some disgusting lawyer’s class action shakedown lawsuit.

Honestly I’m beginning to wonder what the Republican Party is thinking with this insane spending. There is no push back, nothing but unanimous support. This is not sustainable. It isn’t responsible and it is outright shameful and just lining the pockets of wealthy individuals and corporations. All the PPP money mostly went to big corps that had relationships with banks. Just stop already.

  7. ^ This is the government response I expected in 2024-25: the end game of the fraudulent Federal Reserve System and the United States of America Corporation as run now by the multi-component Deep State. Instead, it’s been precipitated now, probably intentionally. They have no alternative because to have one would be their own demise. The only way to continue the game is to print money with the facade of the FED’s mandate of controlling inflation stripped away. There’s just no other way for THEM. And Congress is an INTEGRAL part of the equation.

It’s the end of an epoch anyway. Money based on debt is not money. It’s servitude. Get ready to serve – and you’ll be required to prove your worthiness to have access to THEIR money.
