Sen. Rand Paul Files Amendment to Defund Planned Parenthood

Update: Senate Rejects.– Daily Caller, and  at Daily Wire. [h/t Uncle Al]
Senator Paul let’s em have it.

Breitbart: Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky has filed an amendment to a Senate appropriations package that would defund Planned Parenthood.

The senator introduced the amendment to H.R. 6157, the Defense, Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education for Defense, Labor, Health and Human Services package, that would strip taxpayer funds from Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.

“One of the top priorities for a Republican Congress that professes pro-life values on the campaign trail should be to stop taxpayer funding for abortion providers,” said Paul in a statement. “This is our chance to turn our words into action, stand up for the sanctity of life, and speak out for the most innocent among us that have no voice.”  more here

SNIP: The libs are already saying that Rand Paul is trying to overturn Roe v. Wade.  But they’re pretty stupid and easily agitated.  This is about ending TAX PAYER funding for  abortions.

  1. From the Daily Wire:

“The Republican Leadership has filled the amendment tree to block my defund Planned Parenthood amendment,” he said. “But how could that be? Surely Republican Leadership does not favor abortion funding.”

Paul claimed that the Republican leadership is blocking the amendment because they favor “bloated government spending more than they care about Planned Parenthood.” He criticized the appropriations bill that exceeds spending caps by $100 billion. Paul asserted, “Big-spending Republicans fear that blocking funding from Planned Parenthood would derail their plans to greatly expand the welfare-warfare state.”

Half the time I hate him, the other half I love him. But bottom line he’s the strongest constitutionalist serving. And I think Trump actually likes him. He’s a valuable ally.

  3. @Bad_Brad – Yessir, that’s a problem. Bogus, but a problem nevertheless.

BTW, here‘s the NYT article referred to in the gateway piece. The short version is that DJT’s reimbursement for Cohen’s paying the hush money went on the books as a legal expense, and the NY state govt thugs claim it was a campaign expense and so the bookkeeping was a felony. GMAFB.

  4. I’ve written the President a few times on this asking him to defund PP (it’s like 500 mil) and allocate that money to security of schools around the nation. I want to see the Democrats choke on this as Trump shoves the issue down their throats by stating “imagine all the children we can protect.”

Let’s see if they invoke the words of Jesus Christ on this issue as they do immigration and raising taxes on “the rich,” as 0bama did.

“that’s a problem. Bogus, but a problem nevertheless.”

Not bogus once you realize what court they are holding this trial in. The court of public opinion. This is all about the mid terms. What Trumps approval ratings.

  6. @Ted: “imagine all the children we can protect.” The Dems don’t want to protect children (that’s what they are so pro-abort), they just wanna use school protection as a hammer to enact gun control so I don’t think that will have much effect on them, unfortunately.
