California Beach Faces Health Crisis from Mexican Sewage: ‘Residents Falling Ill’

Sara Carter: Once a popular destination for families and beachgoers, Imperial Beach in southern California is now barren. The coastal town, located just south of San Diego, is inundated each year by billions of gallons of untreated sewage flowing across the border from Mexico. This ongoing pollution has forced beach closures, polluted the air with unsafe levels of contaminants, and left residents battling severe health issues, according to the Telegraph.

The source of the pollution lies in Tijuana, one of Mexico’s fastest-expanding cities. Since the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) came into effect in the mid-1990s, the city has grown rapidly. However, infrastructure on both sides of the border has failed to keep pace. The outdated sewage systems, overwhelmed by a population of over 2.3 million, now leak as much as 80 million gallons of wastewater daily into the Pacific Ocean and the Tijuana River, which flows north into the U.S. more

  1. I’ve been to the mexican border town of Reynosa many times. It’s such a shit-hole. People’s sewage runs out of their houses down to the street and men with mule drawn carts scrape it up and haul it away. Just a few miles north is McAllen, TX, which is a really nice small city. It’s sad to see third world conditions so close to our country and invaders bringing that mentality with them.

  2. Shit River in Olongapo City in the Philippines has nothing on Tijuana. They’re both total shitholes with TJ being worse. I only went to Tijuana once when I was in the Navy stationed down in the San Diego area, I wasn’t impressed. If I had my choice I’d rather be in the Philippines, at least they have monsoons to wash all the shit away. And the Filipino people for the most part are nicer and more civilized than Mexicans.
