I know he was ‘in the club’, but I liked him. RIP.

The Bedford Incident and Lillies of the Field are two very good movies.
I don’t care what his politics were, he was one fine actor.

The Bedford Incident.
In The Heat of the Night.
Lilies of the Field.
They just dont make them like that anymore.

Saw his movies as a kid and thought all blacks were civil and intelligent. Then I grew up. RIP Sidney.

He was intelligent & well spoken and I have to assume he had contempt for modern black men & women.
I saw a black guy in the park yesterday with his two young daughters.
Good right?
Then I noticed his pants hanging down below his ass.
Oh well, gotta represent “the culture” I suppose?

Lilies of the Field is arguably my favorite movie.
While I figure he was a liberal, he did not act as though his position made his opinion any more important than ours.
I understand that death is a part of life so generally just accept the deaths of famous people. The death of Mr. Poitier, however, makes me say, “Damn.”

To Sir, With Love was likely the first I ever watched starring Sidney.
Had a great song as well…

The Last Brickmaker
Requiascant in pace, Mr. Poitier.

RIP Mr. Tibbs.

Okay, to add a little levity and irreverence to this obituary, I will say that I didn’t like his Dr. Pepper knock-off movie, “They Call Me Mr. Pibb”.
Other than that, I greatly respected the man’s body of work.

Sidney Poitier, a decent, smart, handsome, intellectual, dignified gentleman – a man of honorable intent.
Yes, he was liberal, a Hollywood insider and had a messy private life. However, he did portray highly principled black men in his movies. He knew how to be an excellent role model.
My favorite Poitier movies; “Lillies of the Field” and “To Sir With Love” – adore that film.
In general, his characters were individuals to admire and emulate – what the majority of black American men used to be.
I highly respected him as a teen – he and Dianne Caroll. They were awesome, incredible actors.
Sad that Mr. Poitier has passed – so has a grand era.

??????
Was he the guy in Police Academy who made all those funny noises with his mouth?
If so, he was hella’ cool.
No love for Blackboard Jungle?

What about “Something of Value” about the Mau Mau uprising in Colonial Kenya. He was unforgettable in that one.

He was great in “Shoot To Kill”. If you have not seen it, I highly recommend that you do. Wall to wall action. Had Tom Berenger & Kirsty Alley in it, as well. Probably not one of Sidney Poitier’s better known movies, but it is a true cliffhanger in more than one way! Very smart & clever plot, too!
2
I love when he sings ‘Lemon Tree’.

Man, all the cool people in Hollywood history have been dropping like flies. And yet that dumbass Cher is still alive and kicking.

Lilies Of The Field
