DC: Nicholas Haros, who lost his mother in the attacks, was one of the volunteers reading the names of victims at Ground Zero in Tuesday’s memorial.
After completing his list of names and paying tribute to his late mother, Haros slammed Democrats Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Cory Booker and a member of the media for using the 9/11 victims as “props.”
“And one more thing, if I may,” Haros started, talking over the music meant to end his speaking time.
“This year, a representative of the House referred to our loss as just another incident. This year, a network commentator said the president’s performance in Helsinki was a traitorous act as was 9/11,” Haros asserted. “And last week, a senator attacked a Supreme Court nominee and called him a racist for alleged comments after 9/11.”
“Stop. Stop,” he pleaded. “Please stop using the bones and ashes of our loved ones as props in your political theater. Their lives, sacrifices and death are worth so much more. Let’s not trivialize them or us. It hurts.” WATCH

In spite of the silence of the left post 9/11, a moment of real national unity and patriotism, reluctantly accepted by the left for a brief time, a very brief time, maybe a month, until the natural anti-Americanism began to, at first, seep out.
Within 3 months it was gushing out in a torrent.

9/11 is our wedding anniversary and we always go on vacation that week, as I am now.
In 2001 we flew to Boston Logan and rented a car, headed to a beautiful house on Cape Cod over looking Lewis Bay, where I had lived up until 1994. We got there on 9/8 and visited old friends and hadn’t turned on the TV once, but I did that morning to do a weather check, as Dan and I were about to go out on his boat that day for striper fishing off monomoy.
I think I turned on the tv about 8:45 that morning. First report was a small plane, but when I saw the gash in WTC I knew better. I saw plane 2 hit live on television.
I had a stiff scotch after watching the towers come down and we went to a local hardware store and bought an American flag and flag pole and put it on the rental house.
Fishing didn’t happen that day. A glorious September day.
At the end of the week they opened up air travel again but there was no fucking way for me. I called the rental car company and they waived the one way drop off fee, so we drove back. Fee didn’t matter, actually.
We drove by smoldering and smoking Manhattan and eventually by the Pentagon on the way home.
This story could go on and on. Like bawling when I finally making contact with an old friend who worked at the pentagon. I can’t tell you how happy I was to hear from him. Many many were not so fortunate.
