A loud boom that shook the Washington, D.C., region Sunday was caused by an authorized Defense Department flight that created a sonic boom, officials said.
“The loud boom that was heard across the DMV area was caused by an authorized DOD flight. This flight caused a sonic boom. That is all the information available at this time,” Maryland’s Annapolis Emergency Management Office tweeted.
There is no threat to the region at this time, the D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency said.
The loud explosion-like sound was heard in Virginia, D.C. and Maryland.
Multiple people online said they felt their homes shake from the boom, but the reports are unconfirmed. more
Get used to it, District of Criminals.
The next one may be unauthorized, and a threat.
Now what?
guess all those negro-shoot-outs don’t bother you much?
We had a fly by demonstration once with an RA 5 Vigilante photo reconnaissance aircraft on board the Kitty Hawk over the Pacific Ocean. I don’t know how fast it was flying, it was well over Mach 1 or even Mach 2 when it came screaming across the sky with one hell of a loud sonic boom and went from one end of the horizon to the other end of the horizon seemingly as fast as lightning. That RA 5 Vigilante put on quite an impressive demonstration that day as we watched it from the flight deck.
Such coddled children. Totally unsophisticated and have the memory of goldfish. These things used to be a staple of living in that area with its several military bases/stations.
Oh, Vlad?!
Apparently this was caused when a private aircraft entered secured airspace in DC and the F18 went to intercept it. It’s likely that the aircraft lost air pressurization and everyone aboard was probably dead. See golfer Payne Stewart.
It crashed in southwest Virginia.
Curious. A Chinook helicopter just passed over my house headed in the direction of the crash site.
Related? I don’t know.
RA5 Vigilante??? Wow, Geoff…how old are you?!
I was talking to my daughter on the phone and she said, ” mom did you hear that boom?It shook the house? ” I didn’t hear it but have heard a sonic book before. I live in the Shenendoah area but didn’t hear anything. It’s sad four people one a two year old died.
I used to hear sonic booms quite often in the 60s.
I should be the owner of everything below and above ground. Why can’t I put flight restrictions above my property? Why are DC elites above the law? More than half of them say NO ONE is above the law.
finally the kaboom!
Growing up in the San Fernando valley in the 50s and 60s, sonic booms were frequent. And then the Rocketdyne testing at Simi Santa Suzana. Mom’s dishes weren’t safe on the shelves. Good times.
For the second time in three years, AOC almost died.
Some politicians got scared.
Time to ramp up the tyranny.

Same here. They were cool. I miss them.
Living in Orlando the Space Shuttle world rock the house pretty good.
Tony R, I just turned 70 in March. I feel like I’m a very young 70 at least mentally and intellectually with all the aches and pains of getting older physically. I’ve been around long enough now to have seen the world go crazy over the past 50 years or so and I am not too happy about it. God has blessed me with a very good life so far and I am a very blessed man despite being 70. And my beard is getting whiter all the time now and I’m a happy camper for the most part.
I have heard them quite a few times. I dont know what the big deal is. Maybe the should do it more often to help Americans grow a spine.
I guess the residents of DC aren’t used to the sounds of Freedom.
Too bad for them.
They don’t know what they’re missing.
