Two Washington, D.C. bicycle patrol police officers and one Department of Transportation traffic control employee were injured Thursday night when a white pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed plowed right into them.
The pickup truck then continued on through the intersection and crashed into a large dump truck parked beside the road.
The incident occurred about 9:00 pm local time, in the Adams Morgan area of Northwest D.C.
In a news conference Thursday night, D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham reported that one of the officers is in “extremely critical condition.” The other officer and the traffic control officer are also injured, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Both suspects in the pickup truck were placed under arrest, and a weapon was recovered from the vehicle. Chief Newsham said the suspects are being questioned, but their identities were not yet released.
When asked, he would not rule out terrorism, saying, “We have to look at that very closely. We do not have a motive at this time.” more here
