Starbucks’ ‘Brand Perception’ Takes A Massive Hit After Announcing Plans To Hire 10,000 Refugees

ZeroHedge: About a month ago, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz decided to ‘take a stand’ in defiance of Trump’s immigration executive order and penned a message to the world vowing, among other things, to hire 10,000 refugees over the next 5 years and “build bridges, not walls, with Mexico”.  Here are some excerpts from the politically charged message drafted by Schultz with “deep concern and a heavy heart”:

I write to you today with deep concern, a heavy heart and a resolute promise. Let me begin with the news that is immediately in front of us: we have all been witness to the confusion, surprise and opposition to the Executive Order that President Trump issued on Friday, effectively banning people from several predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States, including refugees fleeing wars. I can assure you that our Partner Resources team has been in direct contact with the partners who are impacted by this immigration ban, and we are doing everything possible to support and help them to navigate through this confusing period.

Hiring Refugees: We have a long history of hiring young people looking for opportunities and a pathway to a new life around the world. This is why we are doubling down on this commitment by working with our equity market employees as well as joint venture and licensed market partners in a concerted effort to welcome and seek opportunities for those fleeing war, violence, persecution and discrimination.  There are more than 65 million citizens of the world recognized as refugees by the United Nations, and we are developing plans to hire 10,000 of them over five years in the 75 countries around the world where Starbucks does business.

  1. Hey Schulz, you dumbass, refugees DO NOT WORK. Sweden for example has imported thousands and thousands in the past few years. About 500 of them have jobs. They sit around in their ethnic enclaves — not assimilating; learning more ways to creatively rip off the system; committing a wide variety of crimes; and, the number one activity, breeding. They are a huge cost to society and they don’t even provide cheap labor. Why are liberals so stupid?

  2. In a service industry, you go far out of your way NOT to insult/demean/dissuade your customers.
Particularly if your product is one they could do without and survive just fine.

Another CEO proves that his success was based largely on good luck.

  3. I never go to Starbucks anymore. I go to a local drive thru barista who one day asked me what Rush was talking about when I forgot to turn down my radio.

I imagine Howard Shultz has presidential dreams. I’ve seen local stories about it.

Sort of off topic but here’s a touch of local Seattle flavor that’s not burnt coffee beans. The wife of a friend of mine attended a woman only “Kumbaya Party” where they ate vegan and sang songs-one original song was “Women’s March 2017″ with the chorus ” I’ll be your safe space.” She pics on FB proudly!

    😲

  4. I don’t do starbucks. But I notice they have stands in all the Veteran’s Hospitals in my area, Castle Point, Montrose, Bronx, and Manhattan. If Schulz continues with his nonsense, starbucks should be removed from these venues. If they have gobbled up stands in all the VA Hospitals nation wide, they should be throw to hell out.
Just my opinion. No more Mr. Nice Guy.

  5. Hiring someone and hiring someone to work are two different things. They will just be hired. We saw what the past 8 years was like with a hired self described Captain Lazy Ass in the WH.

  6. Sorry, can’t join the boycott – I gave up on Starbucks a long time ago. I was a “captive customer” for a few months and found that every single one of their offerings was over-roasted. Now, I do like a cup of good dark roast, but what Starbucks consistently got wrong was how much to roast any given bean. Beans that should’ve been medium roast were too dark, and as for a light roast, forgeddaboudit. Their espresso was not awful but that’s as much of a good word they’ll get from me.

Side note: Costco’s own brand of ground medium roast is pretty good.

  7. Haven’t been in a starbucks since their anti-2nd amendment/CCW stance. I have a card of theirs from years ago that still probably has $10 or so on it. I’m think’n I’ll cut it into shreds and send it to the corporate office. I won’t be buying Ethos bottled water either (not that we ever have, but a subsidiary of theirs).

    Screw his anti-American stance(s).

  8. If my memory serves me, Starbucks was the only company who delivered water to the 911 first respondents in NYC and not only wanted to be paid, but increased their regular price. They’ve always been a profit-poisoned company.

  9. Perhaps if President Trump is successful in finally awakening the public to the fraud that is CNN, Schultz can hire unemployed CNN staff. At least they almost speak English.

  10. As I´ve said before here, I make good coffee at home.
If I want the Starbucks experience I´ll pour myself a cup, yell out my name incorrectly, light a $5.00 dollar bill on fire and then scrape the ashes into the coffee!
Seriously, why do CEOs feel they have to play Social Justice Warrior games? That´s not what they are employed for. Their job is to sell a product and make money for their employees and investors. That´s it. Why would they deliberately do anything to rile up a large percentage of their customers with something this inane? The board should fire him and anyone else involved in this hare-brained stunt pronto-ASAP for damaging the brand!
There is too much of this happening to simply be coincidence. Inquiring minds want to know:
Who compensates corporations for their losses so long as they pull stuff like this to weaken America any way possible???

  11. The Plutonium Kid – We’ll find out at the end of their financial year.
I’m betting it won’t be good.

Trump is taking off the handcuffs that the Obamboozler put on industry.
Once we get past the the distracting shit the defecRats are tossing in the way, this economy will take off. After eight years of SUCK, there is 11 Trillion bux in the wings waiting to be invested.
Hang on to yer ass buddy!

  12. Truffles: I have a friend, Freddie Greenberg, a self made millionaire, who delivered thousands of McDonalds and Burger Kings
to the 9/11 site for days. Never got a mention, never asked for one.
Never charged a penny. Just a great American. Just sayin’.
