KRGV: Patrick Svitek, The Texas Tribune-
Longtime Democratic state Rep. Ryan Guillen of Rio Grande City is switching parties as Republicans press to make new inroads in South Texas and after redistricting made his district much more favorable to the GOP.
Guillen was set to make the announcement Monday morning during a news conference in Floresville where he was joined by Gov. Greg Abbott and House Speaker Dade Phelan, R-Beaumont.
“After much consideration and prayer with my family, I feel that my fiscally conservative, pro-business, and pro-life values are no longer in-step with the Democrat Party of today, and I am proudly running as a Republican to representHouse District 31,” Guillen said in a statement.
Guillen’s decision to run for reelection under the GOP banner is a boon for Republicans who have been working to show new strength in South Texas after President Joe Biden underperformed there in 2020. The decision also comes after the GOP-led redistricting process turned Guillen’s district, already Republican-leaning, into a solidly red one. more here

Brah, those values were NEVER in step with the Democrat Party. You were just fooled for…ALL of your life!
BULLSHIT! Don’t be fooled.
How much money has he taken from the Democrats, before deciding to be a Republican?
Like a flag flapping in the wind.
He just wants a few more Govt cheques before he becomes a private lobbyist or whatever.
Democrats in red states always do that when they know they can no longer be elected as a democrat. The problem is they still vote the same way, hopefully Texans know this and send him packing.
He is switching parties to increase his chances of reelection, not out of a change in principles. He is very likely a swamp rat.
I don’t want to jump on the negativity bandwagon without researching him a little. At the Texas Scorecard site, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility rates him at 26 on fiscal issues and on right to life issues, Texas Right to Life rates him a 27. On the same site, Texas Young Conservatives gave him a rating of 42. His highest rating, 60, was from Environment Texas. Jury’s still out for me, but I admire him for switching, which will undoubtedly make him a D target.

How is Tulsi Gabbard still a democrat?
^^^^^Because she lives in Hawaii. But she’s pulling a bunch of them towards are side.
If I was a democrat and knew the democrats’ ass was going to be handed to them at the next election I’d switch to the other side and still remain a democrat.
Nobody is gonna buy this nonsense.
Wolf in republicans clothing is all you are.
