Sullivan wins Alaska; GOP will hold 50 seats in Senate

Just The News: Alaska Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan on Wednesday was declared the victor in his race for reelection against Independent challenger Al Gross, handing the Republican Party 50 seats in the Senate and throwing control of that chamber to the outcome of two runoff races in Georgia. 

News networks announced Sullivan’s victory on Wednesday morning. Sullivan, a former U.S. Marine, was first elected to represent Alaska in 2014. 

The GOP now holds 50 seats in the U.S. Senate, just shy of the majority needed to exercise control over the proceedings there. more

  1. That’s not much of a comfortable control situation for the GOP.

    How many of that 50 are actually conservatives that won’t turn against the conservative side and join in with the Democrats? Could make a huge difference in future confirmations, no matter who wins the Presidency, and in getting controversial legislation enacted.

  2. Stacey Abrams is requesting carpetbagging democrats invade Georga and register for the runoff. State law allows for peoples staying in the state on 12/7 a right to participating in the runoff on 1/5.

    Do they have to establish some kind of legal residence and State identification or can they just claim a temporary residence like a motel they are staying at till they leave to qualify?
