Target joins Costco in dropping coconut milk brand over forced monkey labor allegations

ABC7: Target is the latest company to drop Chaokoh coconut milk over allegations of forced monkey labor.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, said the retailer will no longer sell the product because of its alleged ties to monkey labor.

Chaokoh’s Thai supplier is accused of forcing monkeys to pick coconuts from the trees, CNN reported.

In a statement to USA Today, Target said it takes those claims seriously and removed the product in November. more

  1. You show me a dog with a job and I will show you a dog that lives a fulfilling life. My mother used to have a kitten with a wire tail because we would take hounds hunting that had suffered injuries and were stapled up a week earlier. What she finally came to understand is that if they were left home they would more likely than not do more damage to themselves than they would suffer hunting.

I suspect these monkeys love their work.

  2. Yeah, I don’t have the whole story so this outrage is boring me.
I would imagine the monkeys would move on if they were being treated like crap. Plus, they can rip a man’s arm clean off. Shit, maybe the monkeys run the joint and the people work for them. lol

  3. Instead of using monkeys in such a cruel way, they should just sit under a coconut tree and wait. Sooner or later a coconut will fall down and hit them on head. If they don’t die from it, they make a nice little profit without using the poor monkeys.

  4. Are they paying the monkeys a minimum wage of 15 bananas/hr? Are they using howler monkeys or are they exploiting spider monkeys?

What would do-gooders do with their lives without an endless number of things to snivel about?
