EAG News: ANTIOCH, Calif. – A substitute teacher is out of a job and his employer is re-evaluating its hiring practices after the teacher went off the rails in a tirade against students caught on video and sent to the media.
The teacher, who was not identified in news reports, allegedly lost his mind over a box of missing rubber bands in a sixth grade classroom at Antioch Middle School last week, and a school employee sent a video of the incident to KRON.
The tipster also sent along a note that said “teachers are frustrated by a lack of discipline in the school and perhaps that is why this teacher lost his cool.”
My kids went to grade school and Jr.high in Antioch. We lived in that town for many years and could see it going down hill 40 years ago. I dreamed of the day to get the hell out of there and we did. Now it’s full of Section 8 housing. It use to be 99% white now it’s 99% blacks. I don’t blame the teacher, I’d be fed up with children whose parents do not care. I won’t ever go back there – not even for a funeral. I have family who still lives there and children in school, and I know for a fact they don’t discipline their little snowflakes.
Teach, put a rubber band around your head and snap out of it.
I used to get upset at my kids for losing/breaking/ruining things, especially when breaking the house or my own items. It’s either accept the situation or fight it. Now I keep my cool and say something like, “Now we don’t have any more rubber bands.” Then a few days later the kids will want something like a candy bar or whatever and I’ll just respond, “We need to get a box of rubber bands instead.” A sense of guilt overcomes them and I can see how sorry they are. My youngest becomes apologetic on the spot.

I used to sub at my kids school in Jr. High and High School. I just told the kids that they knew what the rules were, and that I would probably laugh as I was writing them up, because I got paid whether or not they played nice.
Oddly enough the kids liked me. Or maybe they thought I was crazier than they were….

What are you insinuating with that rubber-band shape in the photo MJA?
That sub does a great Sam Kinison impression!
They’re just rubber BANDS, teach, not rubbers. Find your emergency roach and get over it.
