Texas: Allen West to become GOP chairman

Texas Tribune: Allen West, the firebrand former Florida congressman, has defeated Texas GOP Chairman James Dickey to lead the country’s largest state Republican Party.

West claimed victory shortly before 3:30 a.m. Monday, while Dickey conceded about an hour later. The developments came during an early morning round of voting among state Senate district caucuses at the party’s virtual convention.

West ended up carrying a clear majority of the 31 caucuses — 22 — to only four for Dickey, a wide enough margin to negate any desire for a floor fight where individual delegates would be asked to make their choice for chair. Dickey formally withdrew early Monday afternoon, urging party unity ahead of the November election.

“That is my commitment and that is my humble request of all of us — that we stand together, united by our shared commitment to win together in November,” Dickey said. more

  1. “He rode with us to the Georgia national cemetery to bury a brother. Just showed up. Good man, just blended in.”

This the one on GA 20 between Canton and Cartersville?

  2. I met Allen West when Pamela Geller brought him to the stage at CPAC in 2009 or 2010. Hard to forget his complete capture of the audience and command of detail and information on the radical jihadist enemy he fought head on. I was hoping for this political win in Texas and now I am hoping that President Trump can use the energy and drive that Allen West has to help solidify a win in Texas and overall in the November election.

  3. First Admiral Jackson, now Colonel West…batting average is on the upswing for the Lone Star state!

Unfortunately, Cornyn sailed through the primary and is on this November’s ballot. Can’t vote against him, but, as before, I will not be voting for him.

Too bad our TX Constitution doesn’t allow for recall. Those jackwagons, down in Austin, are always adding penny ante amendments…but, one for recalling our straying public ‘servants’, now that I could vote for!

Another one I really like, which was being considered for the state’s GOP Plank, is creating a TX Electoral College. This would leaven out the ironclad control Austin/DFW/Houston/San Antonio have over the rest of the state.
