The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that the host committee for the Democratic National Convention paid $1 million in bonuses to staff and volunteers in November. It would appear that it took only four months for the committee to forget what a disaster the 2016 Democratic National Convention was.
Below is a rough timeline of the events that unfolded during the Convention in Philadelphia:
- Just days ahead of the Democratic convention, internal emails from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) were leaked that showed the DNC’s leadership favored Hillary Clinton’s candidacy over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), which caused the convention to be shrouded in controversy.
- Then-chair of the DNC, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), resigned from her position ahead of the convention, hoping to quell Sanders supporters’ outrage before the convention started.
- It was evident from the start of the convention that Wasserman Schultz’s resignation was not enough for Sanders supporters, who fiercely booed her during the Florida DNC Delegation Breakfast on the first day of the convention.
