TheHornNews: The Eiffel Tower grew by six meters (nearly 20 feet) on Tuesday after engineers hoisted a new communications antenna at the very top of France’s most iconic landmark.
Tourists watched from the Trocadero esplanade as the new digital radio antenna was helicoptered up. more
Okay, I was expecting another Viagra joke….
I used to have a neighbor who said he worked on it’s extension just after WWI. He was a steel worker, and had a wallpapered over a 1/4 steel sheet behind his stove in his kitchen and wanted me to put an outlet in it. I didn’t know and he had forgotten it he had installed it for fire safety. Pain.
The whole tower would make a nice quarter wave vertical antenna for an AM broadcast station.
Would I have grown if I started wearing a Marge Simpson wig?
Now 15% gayer.
@Manbearpig — Exactly. The Eiffel Tower is the same height as before. The antenna on top of it is 20′ taller.
One of the best views of the Eiffel Tower is standing directly underneath the center of it and looking straight up.
One impression I had when visiting over 20 years ago was all the communication equipment at the top.
It was chock full of the shit.
I get it but damn, imagine the Statue of Liberty being used as a glorified cell tower?
Gustav Eiffel is a rollin’…
Wild Bill – it would have to be a low frequency station, at 500Kc, it would be over 200 degrees.
It really seems quite silly to publish this kind of info. As others have said, I bought a new hat so now I’m taller. The only people that this is important to is the pilots that need height information on all structures that may be a hazard to aviation.
