The Fall of Chicago

AmericanThinker: What our Marxist friends call “internal contradictions” are bringing down Chicago, as they have already bankrupted Detroit. Writing at Powerline, Paul Mirengoff explores “The Larger Meaning of Rahm Emanuel’s Woes.”

I agree with Walter Russell Mead that “what’s happening in Chicago is an earthquake that points to the escalating crisis of governability for blue cities across the United States.”

Mead identifies six dimensions to the crisis. They are:

First, this dilemma: a dramatic reduction in crime contributed to the economic health of cities like Chicago; aggressive policing contributed to that reduction; but dramatic policing leads to more confrontations between civilians and the police, such as the ones that have Emanuel in so much trouble.

Second, large pensions for public sector union members are forcing cities like Chicago to cut back on key services, including public education. This produces, among things, a serious tension between various liberal constituencies.

Third, the strength of the public sector unions also makes it very difficult for cities to manage their workforce. This too causes a decline in the quality of services.

  1. I warned my sister and her creepy academia husband over 10 years ago when Chicago “only” had a ~$40 billion debt and still was doing nothing to curtail pension & wage benefits, that all the “fee” increases in the world-Chicago puts fees on EVERYTHING- just wouldn’t be enough and TPTB would eventually get around to property taxes.

Her last basis period saw a huge increase and Rahm has now publicly admitted that property taxes would increase again despite saying when they raised them last time, that would “solve” the problem.

A sure sign of the impending disaster are how long a home sits before it sells plus vacant homes on your block. I used to encourage her to leave but now…ahhh, this is the crap she voted for all her life and would bring the same polluted thinking to any new place she moved so now I tell her to hunker in, get weapons(never) and some range time because soon enough the jigaboos will be on the rampage.

Too bad because it really is a beautiful city.

  2. The inherent imbecilities of socialism will, eventually, manifest themselves. Every major city in America is a swirling cesspool of feral mouth breathers, illegal alien invading parasites, domestic parasites, and racist demagoguery, waiting to flush into the pristine fields of decent America.

The cities will collapse under the weight of their own contradictions, brought on by the socialists’ insistence that reality means nothing, and only their fetid ideology is pertinent. The falsity of their narrative will, sadly, reveal itself in the suffering and eventual starvation and deaths of their own acolytes and sycophants.

We can pity the fools who follow foolish ideologies, but we really can’t help them – they refuse to see reason and are enamored of their idols, false prophets, and false gods.

  3. They will NEVER learn. These leaders and their followers all think they are so much smarter than the rest of us rubes. They live like they can make a utopia instead of living in the real world with all it’s complexities.

  4. Not one leader in Chicago has even a brief understanding of Economics. Seems like basic math to me, A-B = C.
    Emanuel’s lack of understanding is
Less (A)ssets minus ever increasing (B)udget equals (C)ollapse

  5. Yeah jigaboos, got a problem with that?

I can’t speak for Fur but in the past he’s said he doesn’t
care who lives next door to him as long as they’re conservative.

Me OTOH, won’t live anywhere near blacks. So yeah, I’m a racist. You don’t like that, tough shit. Also the town I live in now is over 70% latino and there are 2 gringo families on the block and I have great neighbors.

Now tell me how many blacks live on your block pal mmmk?
