The Invasive Northern Snakehead Fish That Can Survive on Land Has Been Caught in Georgia

You have permission to kill it with fire.

Breitbart: An invasive fish was caught in Gwinnett County, Georgia, the state’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) confirmed Tuesday.

Reports said this is the first time the northern snakehead fish, which can survive on land and in low oxygenated systems, has been found inside the state.

Matt Thomas, Chief of Fisheries for the Wildlife Resources Division, said anglers are the “first line of defense in the fight against aquatic invasive species.”

“Thanks to the quick report by an angler, our staff was able to investigate and confirm the presence of this species in this water body. We are now taking steps to determine if they have spread from this water body and, hopefully, keep it from spreading to other Georgia waters,” he concluded.

Reports said the invasive fish have previously been found in 14 other states and are native to the Yangtze River basin in China, according to WYFF 4. more here

  1. From the photo, it looks like a common Puget Sound ‘Sculpin’ (Democrat ‘Bullhead’). We used to catch them quickly and chop them up for crab bait, something we should also do to Democrats.

  2. They’ve claimed it’s because aquarium owners have released them into rivers and lakes. That’s bullshit, Orientals consider it a delicacy and have smuggled them hear and purposely released them for future retrieval. You can find them in any Chinese food mart.

  3. @Gin Blossom: Absolutely right.”Invasive species are often introduced through unauthorized release”
Here in the PNW we have the same problem. Asians keep releasing carp and other fish into the lakes where they kill off the native trout. Huge mess in some of our lakes and rivers. The price of “diversity”.

  4. Is it edible? Just curious.
We have an ugly fish called a “Lawyer”, a reference many believe is linked to its slimy skin and slippery nature, (Burbot) are in the Great Lakes. Ugly as sin.
It’s been called “The Poor Man’s Lobster”. Basically, they are the only freshwater member of the cod family. They actually do taste like cod.

  5. “. . .what ever happened to James Carvel?”

Funny you ask. He was just on just the other day just looking and just sounding like he just ate 2 sour scoops of just dessert somethings or others.

  6. I’m wondering if the Chinese markets were releasing them purposely to mess up our rivers. I’m just saying.
Chinese operate this way, so you never know.

Also, it isn’t just the hispanics crossing the border ready to drop some babies. The Chinese are notorious for that, too.
