The media’s false narrative about the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally being a COVID-19 superspreader event

Just The News:

One of the largest motorcycle rallies in the world was still held in Sturgis, South Dakota, during the COVID-19 pandemic last summer, which the media claimed led to more than 266,000 COVID-19 cases, or nearly one in five of every case reported in America at the time.

The number of cases came from a study by San Diego State University professors published in September, just a month following the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

However, the Sturgis city manager, Daniel Ainslie, said the study and other models that predicted their hospitals would be overwhelmed were wrong.

“I think at the peak during the rally, and even after the rally, about five percent of the [hospital] beds were used for COVID,” Ainslie told Sharyl Attkisson on her show, Full Measure After Hours.

The media linked anywhere from one to about five fatalities to Sturgis, but Ainslie said none were scientifically traced. more

  1. Q: What’s the difference between a Harley & a Vacuum cleaner?

A: On a Harley the Dirt Bag is on the outside!

    Just kidding,
I love Harley, Leo Fender, Colt, and Ford F-150’s (the steel ones)

  2. “and Ford F-150’s (the steel ones)”

Funny thing about that is GMC is now coming out with an aluminum pick um up truck. And now there’s a shortage of aluminum rec bar and plate. Go figure.

  3. I did the Hollister run a couple years, not as big as Sturgis but still, pretty damn big.

I had a FLHC touring model, super comfy. 7 houses on my cul de sac and 4 of us had Harleys, we had some great rides.

And no, all the riders I knew were not SOA types, all professionals, all family men, all well off financially.

  4. The problem with the aluminum truck beds is that when you screw down/bolt shelves & holders in place, they strip out quicker than the older steel beds.

We have 2011, 2014 F-150’s and a 2014 E-250 van. You spend a bit more on fuel but the body integrity for shelf mounting is far better. (i use a bit of red lock tight when I set them up)

I did not mean to change the subject but very few things seem to be better these days. If I’m lucky, I can sometimes find Coke in glass bottles with real cane sugar. My kids notice the difference.

  5. Kcir: Mexico still uses cane sugar. There are some places in the lower Mainland of BC that carry it. Also, some US and perhaps some Canadian bottlers use cane sugar around major Jewish holidays — or so I’ve been told — but it goes fast.

  6. I worked with a guy that for whatever reason could not say aluminum to save his life. Came out different everytime he said it. We were always finding ways to bait him into using the word. It amused us.

  7. Kcir (cause I give a kcuf) ,
I can find “Mexican” Coke (cane sugar, glass bottle) at the end caps of our local & chain grocery stores. Somewhat pricey by the bottle.
If you want to buy bulk/case, occasionally Costco has it in certain locations.
Lately (for the past year), I’ve been buying it as Home Depot.

    Rotsa Ruck out there.
