Today, conservative sites are memorializing our fallen military hero’s and honor their sacrifice knowing how valuable they were, are, and always will be. Without them we would have no freedom.

Today, progressive sites are memorializing a gorilla.
Last November, the 100th anniversary for the poem, my 8-year-old grand daughter Ava and I attended a special reading of the poem at the Army Heritage Museum in Carlisle PA. A Canadian diplomat read the poem in French Canadian and English after a description of the days prior battles, and the story behind the writing in 1916.
The room was a sea of brass from Major Generals to Captains, two Sergeants Majors, myself and the only civilian my grand daughter Ava. After the reading a Colonel from the Canadian Army stepped over to talk to us. He asked Ava “Young lady, did you like the reading and the ceremony?” Ava responded as tears welled in her eyes and a shaky voice “All that I know about the 1st World War started with this poem written about the loss of good friends.” The Colonel stood silent as I handed my handkerchief to Ava I looked in his eyes and said, “Yes Sir, she makes me proud.” The Colonel handed Ava a hand stitched multi layered Poppy from his pocket and said “I want to thank-you so much for being here today.” Shook our hands and and Saluted us.
