A ninth MP has resigned from the government in the week since Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May revealed her soft Brexit plan which has been branded a betrayal of Leave voters by prominent Eurosceptics.
In the space of 24 hours, MP for Witney Robert Courts and MP for North Cornwall Scott Mann have resigned from their government positions following the release of Mrs May’s plans for future European Union-UK relations, which would see post-Brexit Britain tied to many of the bloc’s rules and regulations, joining seven others who resigned either from Cabinet or from a Tory Party role.
They were:
David Davis, MP for Haltemprice and Howden, former Brexit Secretary at the Department for Exiting the European Union (DExEU), Resigned Sunday 8th July
The first resignation came the day after the plan was unveiled at the Prime Minister’s country retreat Chequers.
Mr Davis wrote in his resignation letter that the plan “hands control of large swathes of our economy to the EU and is certainly not returning control of our laws in any real sense”.
He later told the BBC that the EU would wield the “sword of Damocles” over Parliament, saying that the return of sovereignty would be “illusory rather than real”. MORE

Just because you file to divorce your cheating wife, doesn’t mean she has to move out of your house. Or stop having “dates” sleep over. Just like they used to when you were married. Or take her name off the joint accounts. Or stop paying her student loans. You can just pay to file the paperwork. And keep doing everything the way she wanted it done, before. You can totally do that. Just ask her.
Not sure I’m following why these MPs resigned. What good will that do? Wouldn’t it be better to stay and fight for what the people voted for? I’m sure that I don’t understand how the British run their government, so it could be that these people have no real power to do anything if their PM can do whatever she wants.
But I do agree with Chance; if the people had the power backed up by being armed, the government wouldn’t be able to walk all over them if they banded together.
The President should have taken Churchill’s chair instead of just sitting on it. Churchill was not afraid to go it alone (with our help).
Claudia. When they all resign it forces her to call an election. The result could be an even more pro brexit government or it could swing the other way and they get a commie like Corbin at the helm. Interesting times.
