Pretty much why you can’t let toddlers out of your sight.
There’s no substitute for a vigilant parent.
My granddaughter would have climbed it way faster than the boy! Ha. Yes, you cannot let toddlers out of your sight.
When our kids were toddlers I used to consider it amazing that any of us made it to adulthood. Toddlers are at peak speed and abilities! Notice how the ladder “guard” is just like his crib bars he’s probably escaped from many times.
There’s no product that is childproof or idiot proof.
Should be able to pick up a previously used $132,000 glass statue for pennies on the dollar for a more effective deterrent.
Needs razor wire…
Backyard pools are far more dangerous for kids than a handgun in the home.
We need Pool Control NOW!
Where are David Hogg and the SUPER ASTRONAUT Kelly when we need them?
Of all the videos we encounter, this one should certainly be near the top of the list for viral videos. Way far too many accidents involving children and swimming pools.
When my son was 3 we were in Calgary, Alberta visiting my sister in law and went to the Calgary Zoo. Anyway he tried climbing over the fence where the zebras were and was about halfway up the fence when my father in law and I grabbed him and pulled him down. He really wanted to get in with those zebras and he was a fast little bugger that we had to keep our eye on constantly. His wife does that now because he’s still a mischief maker and a big kid at heart, hopefully his daughter will help to settle him down as well.
woulda’ probably been easier to climb up the side … you could tumble right into the pool w/out needing to go on the platform
Strong, single-minded determination…Trump should hire that young man to test the fence prototypes.
btw, a 12-volt battery & some bare copper wire wrapped around that ‘gate’ might help
(… just a little tip from your Uncle Molon 😉 )
Yeah but he only did it once.
Any parent with a baby and a pool needs to see this picture
This is exactly the reason a dozen small children drown every summer in Phoenix
these things ain’t cheap … http://www.intheswim.com/p/combo-step-entry-system-w-gate
My parents had a house with a pool along with three small children (my kid sisters) The first thing they did, even before we moved in, was to put an 8 foot chain link fence around it
Thankfully, the youngest was past the toddler stage. Otherwise, we probably would have placed concertina wire on the top
Dad asked, “who’s idea was it to make a ladder with slats in it a kid can easily climb up”? Ah dad, who’s idea was it to buy it?
Anon is correct re pool drownings. Fl law/HO Ins requires a fence around a pool, however, the only guaranteed prevention is adult supervision, every second.
Twenty years ago, I let a friend stay at my place for a month while I was out of town. Her 2 yo toddled outside, saw a toy in the pool and fell in reaching for it. Sad story, he lingered in life support w/no brain activity for 11 days before they decided to let him go.
To this day, I haven’t had the heart to ask how this happened. She’ll live with the guilt for the rest of her life.
For his next trick, he’ll take the child-proof cap of his momma’s bottle of Percocet.
Molon Laabe has it right.
Put some electricity in that ladder, and Junior will amuse himself elsewhere
There’s a basic flaw in anything labeled “Child Proof”. The little bastards can’t read.
Parents must be illegal immigrants
Before she could walk, I caught my youngest went into her sib’s room climbing the bunk bed ladder, so I unbolted it, and stowed it on the top bed and told the other two why.
Then I hear, “MOM!!!”
She’s climbing up the foot boards all the way up like a frickin’ monkey.
We also had one of those wall mounted baby gates to keep her out of the kitchen, which she immediately started climbing, so my husband unbolted it and raised it so she couldn’t pull up, so she turned her head sideways, flattened herself out on her belly and squeezed under it.
She’s 13 now, and still trying to come up with ways to give us a heart attack.
