Dream, dream, dream Phil.
To Bad. What a great talent. I remember some musical thread here one time and we were talking about best harmony an BFH mentioned these guys. Spent the rest of the night listening to them on You Tube.
Oh no.
Oh Boy, Those songs bring me back to Fort Gordon Georgia, 1960. I only heard them on the radio. RIP
Awaiting moderation? duh.
The Best Harmony I’ve ever heard. If this were released on a Country Label today, They couldn’t burn CD’s fast enough.
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
The Everly Brothers bring back the nicest of memories for me. I thank God that He gave them such talent for the pleasure of so many of us. I think I’m tearing up.
The Everly Brothers unique sound created by ‘Close Harmony’.. especially prominent in Devoted To You.
People forget how many hits they had.
They had 27 top 40 hits.
That’s astounding.
I never heard Phil Everly hit a bad note in a live concert. Not one. He’s like a bell.
Don Everly is easily in my personal top ten favorite singers and Phil only made him better.
Lesson here – DON’T SMOKE –
He died too young. 74 is too young in 2014.
A hot flame. Good for him.
I’ve only heard that song “Dream” on the oldies station. I love that one. They look so classy in that video. Dang, its a shame.
aw
OMG! Another one of our generation is gone. One of the greatest….Just shut my mouth!
This makes me sad. I loved the Everly Brothers. RIP Phil.
Aw, no. 🙁
I liked him better on the Monkeys cuz’ he always wore that blue knit cap.
It’s sad enough to witness truly talented musicians pass away, but it’s sadder yet to think of who or what follows. Lil Wayne, Fiddy Cent – who’s gonna be sorry when they’re gone?
RIP Phil Everly – a truly talented musician – you will be hard to replace.
So sad to hear of his passing. “Wake Up little Susie” is still one of my favorites. Such a great era for R & R.
Who remembers Cousin Brucie on WABC?
When my sister and I were little, we would sit on my grand mother’s living room floor with our mom’s 45 player and spin the records she had when she was a teenager. That was our introduction to the Everly Brothers. Pest in Peace, Mr. Everly. We remember you well.
There is nice discussion over on the Daily Mail regarding how people who are related have a unique advantage in harmony.
Phil and Don. The wonderful prototype for Lennon and McCartney.
Both The Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel modelled themselves on the Everly’s but neither were a patch upon the real thing. I love their music, it will never be matched.
Another good reason to come here. I never saw anything about this on Fox or Drudge.
Frankly I didn’t think any of you honchos were old enough to remember Phil & Don.
I’ve always loved and respected good harmony, e.g. The Righteous Bros., The Judds, Mary Ford & Mary Ford.
I grew up with them. Damned sad.
I grew old listening to them grayjohn.
Saw them in concert at Lake Compounce in Connecticut back in the late 1980’s. They were traveling in separate tour buses because they weren’t gettin along at the time. You wouldn’t know it by the way they preformed. Sure hope they patched things up since then.
RIP Phil Everly, you will be missed. Part of my childhood growing up in the 50′ and 60’s. Many, many great songs. XM’s 50’s on 5 plays an awful lot of their songs every day. I’ll Do My Crying In The Rain is perhaps my favorite Everly Brothers song and what you say about Wake Up Little Susie, I’ve probably heard it thousands of times and I still like it and sometimes even turn it up loud like I used to do.
