Or perhaps Trump is using the refugees as a bargaining chip as he tries to line up as much Asian/Pacific support as possible for his strategy vis-a-vis North Korea. Be that as it may, the deal will be worthwhile, from our point of view, only if the 1,250 refugees are resettled in the Hamptons, or perhaps in Marin County.

The short move from some Pacific Islands to others, like Hawai’i (not as specific as @Page O Turner April 24, 2017 at 9:55 am suggested), is a very good idea, for national security. But import and deport is out, if the current President is even upholding the letter of the previous President’s order. The previous order was to resettle, not merely remove from Australia, the invaders currently held in Australian detainment camps.
If I were Trump, I would tell them that the deal was from obozo, not him, and that we’re doing business differently. Marin County doesn’t need 1,250 refugees, more like 12,500, or 125,000, so they get the idea through their extremely thick skulls.
