While talking to reporters Wednesday, President Trump doubled down on his intent to avoid a “slippery slope” for gun rights.
An unidentified reporter asked Trump what is happening in the push for background checks.
Trump responded, “We have a lot of background checks right now, gun owners can tell you that, others can tell you that. There are certain weaknesses, we want to fix the weaknesses. I think that will happen, let’s see what happens.”
Trump added, “I’m concerned that no matter what we agree to, when we get there, the Democrats will say, ‘Oh, now we want this and we want [that].’ You know it’s a slippery slope, and that’s what, actually, your gun owners and a lot of other people are concerned with.”
On August 20, 2019, Breitbart News reported Trump pledging he will not allow Americans’ gun rights to be swept away on the “slippery slope” of gun control.
What are the weaknesses?
I agree, what exactly are these “weaknesses”? I’m betting they’re referring to the fact I can purchase a gun from a dealer at their shop or at a gun show, undergo the mandated background check then turn around and sell it to someone as a private sale. This is one of the “loopholes” left-tards are always whining about.
@WDS
There are many states that have made the private sale of firearms illegal. Oregon for example, where only the sale or gifting of a firearm to a direct relative is legal, so, what loophole?
@Sarthurk,
sorry, should’ve cited in original comment.

What they call weaknesses is actually failure to prosecute people breaking existing law and allowing prohibited persons to slip through the cracks of NICS.
Same incompetence we can expect with the passing of red flag laws.
It’s an inalienable Right!
It can’t be taken away from us!
And if we beg the government for permission to exercise it, they might grant it to some of us as long as they approve and we agree to obey the strict regulations and conditions they have established for it.
An approval that can be withdrawn and conditions that can be changed by them anytime it suits their whim.
@WDS. if the intent of your example is to buy a gun for someone who cannot legally buy one, then that’s a straw purchase. Already illegal everywhere according to Federal law.
@Answerman, You are correct. Straw purchases are illegal as they should be.
@WDS
No worries 😉
While President Trump is in such a generous mood, how about acting to repeal the 68 GCA and/or the 34 NFA? That would send the BATFEces and Libtard DildoCrats into apoplectic fits, and send every lawful gun owner dancing in the streets with joy!
