Big Gov: President Donald Trump’s administration proposed a new rule on Thursday to rescind onerous Obama-era gas mileage requirements.
Trump’s Environmental Protect Agency (EPA) and the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a proposed rulemaking to adjust the automobile fuel economy and greenhouse gas emissions standards to give Americans access to safer, cleaner, and ultimately, more affordable cars. The rulemaking will set the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) and light-duty vehicle greenhouse emissions standards for light trucks and will set the greenhouse gas and mileage standards for 2021-2026.
Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler said in a statement on Thursday:
We are delivering on President Trump’s promise to the American public that his administration would address and fix the current fuel economy and greenhouse gas emissions standards. Our proposal aims to strike the right regulatory balance based on the most recent information and create a 50-state solution that will enable more Americans to afford newer, safer vehicles that pollute less. More realistic standards can save lives while continuing to improve the environment. We value the public’s input as we engage in this process in an open, transparent manner.
“There are compelling reasons for a new rulemaking on fuel economy standards for 2021-2026,” said DOT Secretary Elaine Chao in a press release on Thursday. “More realistic standards will promote a healthy economy by bringing newer, safer, cleaner and more fuel-efficient vehicles to U.S. roads and we look forward to receiving input from the public.” more here
Just getting around to that? Save us from needing to drive something that requires truck plates
If he REALLY wants to piss off the greenies, he should outlaw Priuses
WooHoo, now save us from Ethanol Mr. T.
Thank goodness, thought if I was to buy a new truck in the next few years, I’d have to fix up the old truck to pull it around.
If we’re talking about improving the environment, then take a look at eagle killing, lithium poisoning, coal fired, spontaneous combustion, cadmium telluride leaking, copper indium selenide leaking, sulfur hexafluoride leaking, charging station dependent electric cars as well.
Oh well, it was kind of thrilling traveling at 75 MPH surrounded by nothing more than tinfoil.
Good!
My mechanics hate this CAFE stuff. They said the car makers just make the vehicles lighter weight and that includes plastic engine parts. They have tons of airbags because the vehicles are unsafe due to being so lightweight.
Long before Obama came up with the ridiculous 50 mpg requirement, the Federal gov’t had already ruined the American car culture. I honestly can’t tell the difference between brands of cars because they’ve all been made into some generic aerodynamic Tonka toy. I literally have to see the logo on a car to be able to tell what it is.
I’d like to see CAFE standards not only rolled back, but obliterated completely. Let the market decide what versions make it. Bring back muscle cars, dammit…
How about rolling back the crap about Diesel DPF regeneration cycles. I’m tired of donating 1/8 of a tank to it when I could be getting 25 MPG.
I have a 2018 Toyota Tundra. It gets better gas mileage than my prior 2016 Toyota Tundra, however it is essentially the same truck.
Why do I get better gas mileage in the new truck?
A year ago I moved away from the proglodytes. I’m not stuck in traffic with goofs I need to get away from, so no need to mash the loud pedal anymore!
SAVE GASOLINE, GET RID OF LIEBERALS AND THEIR STUPID PHONES!
Whoa…….Now we’re all REALLY going to die. I remember Seinfeld when he used to mumble: “Newman!” when he would fuck up Jerry’s plans. Now we can hear the progs mumbling: “Trump”. Probably funnier now.
For sure the ethanol needs to go. The owner of a motorcycle shop told me of the high numbers of fuel pump failures that have been coming into the shop for repair.
Then told of a friend of his who test the ethanol levels at different gas stations. He found many over 30% where it should have been 10% or less.
I also asked if they were having the same fuel pump problems in Europe. Nope, he said they don’t put ethanol in the gas there. Which kind of surprised me. But then thought – here it’s a bandwagon of cash to the corn farmer’s bank accounts, and they don’t want to let go of it.
My car get’s 22 mpg on the highway. I could buy a Tesla and get the same acceleration as my 525hp E63, but I really really like burning stuff.
But I’m all for laws that make everyone else do stupid stuff.
