Trump Halts Trade Negotiations With Canada Over Doug Ford’s Manipulation of Reagan Clip

(Economic Collapse Report)—President Donald Trump wasted no time putting America’s interests first when he shut down all trade talks with Canada late Thursday. The move came after Ontario’s government rolled out an ad campaign twisting words from Ronald Reagan to bash tariffs—the very tools Trump relies on to shield U.S. workers from foreign dumping.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who fancies himself a “big Ronald Reagan fan,” greenlit a $75 million push on October 14 to flood American airwaves with spots targeting Republican strongholds. Two days later, he dropped the first one on X, splicing Reagan’s voice from a 1987 radio address to warn that tariffs “hurt every American worker and consumer.” In the clip, Reagan adds, “When someone says, ‘Let’s impose tariffs on foreign imports,’ it looks like they’re doing the patriotic thing by protecting American products and jobs,” before claiming they only work “for a short time.”

But the Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute fired back hard, calling the edit a straight-up misrepresentation of the full address, done without a shred of permission. They’re digging into legal remedies now and urging folks to hear the unedited version for themselves. Trump seized on that, blasting the spot as “FAKE” in a Truth Social post that laid it all out. more

  1. That guy is an idiot!

  2. So what! They used an actual radio address Reagan gave. The only thing changed was the order they were said. Reagan in April 1987 gave a radio address that was critical of tariffs. All his words. All true.
Looks like someone clutched their pearls rather quickly with no trade talks.

  3. Anonymous, you’ve got zero idea what Reagan said or the actions he took after he gave said speech.
He saved the US steel industry and Harley Davidson by putting tariffs on Japanese steel (which was recycled garbage and all the cars back then rusted away to nothing in a few years) and tariffs on imported motorcycles over 750cc’s. That’s why the 650 and 700cc motorcycles arrived during his Presidency.
Pick up a good book and read it.
The media and Internet are not your friends.

  4. Trump/MAGA dealt with this the way is should be dealt with. Hit back and hit back disproportionately hard. What the bastard pulled is straight out of the prog playbook. The first problem with that playbook is it is designed for a game in which one side controls the flow of information with an iron fist. The second problem with it is Trump doesn’t play by their rules.

  5. Anonymous, now read what I wrote.
He used them. His speech was in the defense of the President needing to be able to set tariffs. And he did!
I gave two examples but you refuse to accept them.

  6. Canada does not allow foreign governments to advertise and propagandize on its media.

Why do we? The First Amendment isn’t for the purpose of protecting the speech of foreign governments.

And why is Fox News allowing this anyway. Unreported and unchallenged by its pundits. Are the poison promotions from Pfizer et al. not bringing in enough revenue?
