Trump says Coca-Cola agreed to use real cane sugar in US drinks: ‘It’s just better!’

NYP

WASHINGTON — President Trump was on a sugar high Wednesday, announcing that Coca-Cola would soon include the real sweet stuff in its US-sold beverages.

“I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so,” Trump, 79, revealed on Truth Social.

“I’d like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola. This will be a very good move by them — You’ll see. It’s just better!” more

  1. I guess a step in the right direction. But it’s all poison. I’ve been taking this product called Liquid I.V. for two months. I highly recommend it. Most people are dehydrated. Especially us old farts. My energy level is off the charts. Not a paid endorsement, lol.

  2. The beet sugar industry U&I (Utah and Idaho) was run by the Mormons and was a huge crop in Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Utah when I was a kid. The Cane sugar interests C&H (California and Hawaii) I don’t know who ran it priced them out through some sort of government subsidy is what I heard. The beats were processed and the pulp and fiber was used in finishing cattle. The sugar plants smelled like hell. A friend who grew beats back in the 1970s said that he and his wife were in Europe and they have massive sugar beet growing operations there. I think it is protected, and they don’t allow cane sugar to compete in that market.

I remember that when I was a kid in Montana some of my aunts and friends of the family were fanatical about their baking and would use nothing but beet sugar. It’s not like much of anything else was on the shelves though. They also used a half dozen different flour and blends in their baking. They had cake flour, bread flour, flour for making noodles made from winter wheat or summer wheat and milled from extremely fine to very coarse.

  3. Corn syrup is poison. It has intermediate molecules that interrupt various metabolic pathways. Basically, we – and all our livestock – shouldn’t be eating corn or any of it’s derivatives.

Now, with respect to BBQ’d sweet corn on the cob… 🤣

  4. I’m still not drinking Coke with cane sugar and especially with high fructose corn syrup. All pop does is make me pee more frequently and I very rarely drink Mt. Dew anymore. I have a large gallon sized glass Mason jar full of cold water in my fridge at all times for hydration.

  5. NEVER FORGET… sugar vanished from ALL softdrinks and many processed foods AFTER THE GOVERNMENT IMPOSED MASSIVE TARIFFS ON IMPORTED SUGAR. Yes, tariffs. additionally, they handed corn farmers and corn processors like ADM and Cargill huge subsidies too. And since both of these actions NEITHER the Republicans or Democrats have done anything other than continuing to support both the tariffs and the subsidies…adding of course the ethanol mandates/subsidies too. SUGAR is not great, but HFCS causes diabetes and other issues and pandering for votes was more important than our health of course.

  6. Ahhhh. About time. Get rid of that HFCS.
I don’t have Coke often (once/week, once/two weeks), but it’s always the Mexican Coke in the glass bottle. Tastes SO much better.

Ur killing me. Being a true Libertarian I’ve read your post about how narcotics should be unregulated. The true Libertarian view point. And here you are bitching about corn syrup? Really? And before you say, well they’re not giving us a choice. Sure they are. Don’t buy it.

That product has a lot of electrolytes in it. They keep telling me I have chronic kidney desease while I know I’m dehydrated. Long story. But someone with diabetes I’m thinking you should check with your MD. Having said that I’m a big believer in the thought that you are your best MD.

  9. I have a Coke once in a blue moon and it’s always Mexican Coke. Everything in moderation. I like the fact that soon it’ll be American Coke. Headline: Donald Trump changes name of Mexican Coke to American Coke.

  10. Brad – what did I say that is not libertarian? I am objecting at all levels to government subsidies that destroyed a free market and undermined free choice for consumers. If people want to consume HFCS that is their choice. But people LOST that choice because government made it economically unfeasible for manufacturers to deliver a choice and government stole from taxpayers to subsidize HFCS. You really have some issues you need to work on. My position it quite freedom based. Get government OUT of the entire discussion. THEY created the problem.

  11. JD – when you take into account all the farm subsidies and those who benefited from higher domestic sugar sales, I’m sure that many Congress members were involved…though Dole was no freedom lover.

  12. “. But people LOST that choice because government made it economically unfeasible for manufacturer”

And I say bull shit. You know what I did? I didn’t buy it or consume it. The Libertarian mantra is all illegal drugs should be legal. You should be able to kill yourself with any illegal drug you desire. Except my tax payer dollars end up going to the E.R. as they try and save these losers. I’ll argue you all day long Libertarians are self destructive. And win.

  13. Been drinking Pepsi (I hate and don’t drink coffee) for some time. I like the new Pepsi with real sugar. Tastes like Pepsi did in the early 60’s when I was a kid. Avoid HFCS like the plague.

  14. I had wondered why we were reimporting Coke from Mexico. The syrup goes from Atlanta into Mexico where they mix it with Mexican (don’t drink the) water, and ship it back to the US. Then I realized that Mexico uses pure cane sugar rather that sugar from sweet corn.
