Trump Transit Sec Sean Duffy cancels Kathy Hochul’s congestion pricing plan for New York City

Trump Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy told New York Governor Kathy Hochul that her plan for congestion pricing in New York City would not be backed by the federal government. In the letter, Duffy told Hochul that the congestion pricing plan “is a slap in the face to working class Americans and small business owners.”

Commuters, Duffy said per the New York Post, are already subsidizing the cost of roads, construction and infrastructure upkeep through their taxes at the federal, state and local level. Hochul implemented the program, which charges drivers under 60th Street in Manhattan $9 for the privilege, after cutting the toll down from her originally proposed $15, calling the reduced fare a savings. The toll was implemented on November 21 under what Hochul called the Value Pricing Pilot Program.

“But now the toll program leaves drivers without any free highway alternative, and instead, takes more money from working people to pay for a transit system and not highways. It’s backwards and unfair,” Duffy said. The program as it stands provides no alternative for drivers who must drive in that area of the city. The federal highway aid program, Duffy said, prohibits the implementation of tolls on roads that were funded with federal money unless Congress creates a carveout or exception. more

  1. Sean Duffy is another DJT pick I had some doubts about. And again, I was wrong. The guy never impressed me that much on FOX. He dug deep into the air traffic controller problems and announced a couple days ago that they’re still using basically WWII technology to track and land planes. So he’s planning on a major overhaul. Plus he just torches Mayor Pete every time he opens his mouth. Pretty funny stuff.

  2. “Congestion pricing” is like the Lexus Lanes on I-75 through Atlanta. The more traffic using the lane, the more money the driver is charged for traveling. Generally, it involves rush hour traffic. It’s a pricing boondoggle.

Now Secretary Sean Duffy needs to look into the Key Biscayne Causeway toll.
