Trump warns of ending health care ‘bailouts’ for Congress, pushes Senate for majority rule

WT: President Trump said Saturday that Republican senators look like “fools” for refusing to change Senate rules that would allow legislation such to pass with a simple majority, and suggested that he’s looking at ending health-care subsidies for members of Congress.

“If a new HealthCare Bill is not approved quickly, BAILOUTS for Insurance Companies and BAILOUTS for Members of Congress will end very soon!” the president tweeted. “After seven years of ‘talking’ Repeal & Replace, the people of our great country are still being forced to live with imploding ObamaCare!”

The president appeared to be referring to a part of the 2010 health care law that shifted members of Congress and many staffers out of the normal health-benefits plan for federal employees and into the new Obamacare insurance exchanges. The Office of Personnel Management decided that the employer contribution portion of premiums could be provided through the exchange in the District.

Some conservative groups have been calling for that policy to be revoked.  MORE

  1. We’ve been saying that the Republican Senate has looked like fools for years, to no avail because McConnell, Graham, McLain, Rubio, Flake, Alexandar, Collins, Murkowski, etc, don’t give a shit about us and what we have to say.

I’m 1000% glad Trump is calling them out, though I wish he had done so earlier. But better late than never I guess.

  2. Good, but that just means that McConnell will continue to pretend that he’s struggling to comply with the Presidents wishes while laboring to undermine him behind his back.

  3. Don’t just threaten, do it immediately!
End the congressional exemption from ObamaCare.
The laws they pass should also apply to Congress.
No More special elitist exemptions for lawmakers and tax raisers.

  4. Those in congress are the worst people in the country as far as wanting, voting for, and getting “free stuff”… for themselves.
New candidates should run on supporting term limits and stopping the lifetime of cadillac benefits for these selfish people, as well as Trump’s ban on lobbying after leaving office.

  5. True, but Mitch would be a whole lot busier keeping his job instead of trying to undermine PDT. Plus, McCain would have to drag his ass back to D.C., and McCain is like Campaign Hillary now; He can put on a show for a couple of days, but then he has to go dark for a week.

  6. “It is apparent that since members of Congress, their families and staff do not have to live under the law they passed for every other American, they lack the incentive to take the action they were elected to take.”

    BINGO!!!!

  7. Hope it’s not just a threat but he does it. Time the so called Elite
live under the same rules. Wonder how Bernie Sanders is going to take the news lol

  8. The subsidies paid to the insurance companies are illegal. This has been ruled by US courts. Pres. Trump, just end this illegal practice. The Congressional subsidies are illegal. Peroid. End of story.

  9. The warnings to congress have been made clear over the last four elections when republicans were given control across the country in every office from small town councils to the U.S. House, Senate & the Presidenancy.

( very similar to the leaflets dropped on 35 Japanese cities for weeks prior to Aug. 6, 1945. Warning that heavy bombing is soon coming – evacuate now. Of course the leadership arrested anyone who told anyone else of tithe warning they’d read on the leaflets. Stay in your homes. We will win the war)

It’s time for Trump to hit the obstructionists (including their staff) in their billfolds, whack ’em in their privilege. Do it hard, often, and without any farther warnings.

And begin immediately to repeal and replace the 7 who blocked repeal.

And also go after any fence sitters, anyone who might be assigned the task by McConnell to vote to defeat the next repeal bill with the assurance that the GOPe has their back, and by the time they’re up for election again his constituents will have forgotten about it with assistance from massive quantity of pork barrel projects if needed.
