Trust in the Media Plummets 36%, Second Lowest in History

Neon Nettle: Americans’ trust in the establishment media has sunk to new lows, according to a recent Gallup report.

The figure is the second-lowest on record, which rivals 32% in 2016.

The gap in trust of the media is pretty big among Democrats and Republicans.

68% of Democrats trust the establishment media.

With Republicans, trust is just 11%.

Gallup reported the trust in the media averaged 45% since 1997 but hasn’t reached a majority level since 2003.

Pew Research Center also found a significant gap in trust among Democrats and Republicans in a recent survey. more

  1. The media is tied to the hip of demoncRATS and the BiteMe administration, so it is only natural that their approval/disapproval, trust/no trust ratings would track together.

  2. What definition does Gallup use for what they call “the media”? It’s not as though there’s a definitive line dividing up all the entities from which people get information and insight about things outside of their person experiences. There are the obvious extremes such as NPR and CNN versus FEE and the Mises Institute, and I don’t think anyone can point to a “media” source that is without a bias or agenda. It’s simply that some freely and openly acknowledge their bias and other deny and lie about it.

Furthermore, once you know and understand a “media” source’s agenda, their reporting and opining once again becomes a source of valuable information. It’s not the information they intend to convey, of course, but that’s why it has potential value.

It is, finally, good that this poll seems to be saying that a lot of people are realizing that they have to be discriminating about their sources of news.

  3. @Benito – “…WHO ARE THESE DUMB ASSHOLES???…”

You know who they are. They voted for McConnell, Romney, Collins, Murkowski, Thune, and other like minded RINO’s.

  4. Back in the early days of iOTW – I don’t remember the exact incident that inspired it – we all added some version of “Cracker” to our iOTW moniker. In fact, I believe that Loco Blanco Saltine is a remnant from that challenge.

I propose a new challenge. Add FJB to your name – see how it works. But either way, that theme MUST be perpetuated and amplified.

  5. I laugh at most “news” today. It is often (and I pronounce that without the “T”) so ridiculous that I can’t believe anyone would buy it.

  6. Stopped trusting The Press when Walt started putting out KGB propaganda in his UGLY AMERICANS “news” at CBS 71 YEARS AGO! MSM has repeatedly confirmed my judgement for 70 years. it was FAKE NEWS 71 years ago; it is FAKE NEWS today!

  7. NYT was extolling the virtues of Stalinism while he was murdering some 30 million Ukrainians.

And I believe Hitler was Time’s “Man of the Year” once, in a negative way, before the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact – which legitimized him in the eyes of the Press.

    The rot is deep.

  8. @ Exjarhead
    I agreed
Walter Cronkite was a communist through and through. I remember hearing him in grade school in documentaries they made us consume.
The only redeeming value he had was his voice. And he pissed it away on propaganda for commies.
If they take America down the whole world is enslaved, thus their persistence.
They have a few things in their way, you know what they are.

  9. Believe what comes out of a republican’s mouth, 0%. But they do love old wive’s tales, conspiracy theories, fake news or any ole thing made up that supports their twisted views of someplace far far away from reality. The talk that you need your own country just might be true, please please move. Never neverland comes to mind.
