‘Type 1 diabetes Barbie’

NEW YORK (AP) — Mattel has introduced its first Barbie representing a person with Type 1 diabetes, as part of wider efforts from the toy maker to increase inclusivity among its dolls.

In an announcement Tuesday, Mattel said it had partnered with Breakthrough T1D — a Type 1 diabetes research and advocacy organization formerly known as Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or JDRF — to ensure that the design of the doll “truly captures the community.” That includes accessories that “accurately reflect the medical equipment” people with Type 1 diabetes may need, the California-based company noted. more

  1. When I was young enough to play with dolls, I imagined a world where a disease I have to deal with every day, didn’t exist.
I wanted a place where everything was normal and nothing was encompassed by shots and monitoring everything.
I guess today’s kids just need to be victims in every aspect of their life.

  2. Whutz taking them so long to come out with the Husky, one-eyed hunchback, tu-tu wearing, Diesel-fired, Lesbian Barbie?

Plaid Flannel shirt and Nipple rings not inclulded.

  3. For a young girl just diagnosed this looks to me like a great idea. It normalizes wearing those glucose monitor non stop. They wouldn’t feel like a freak. I like it.

  4. Interesting observation about diabetes. There was about a 10 year stretch where every BMF I met in the gym was diabetic. Except for me of course. Must be something about high blood sugars and building muscle. In fact there were a couple pros back in the day that were diabetic.

  5. @Thirdtwin: Does Colostomy Barbie give Philadelphia Sidecars? Iykyk. If you don’t know, Google at your own risk. You have been warned. What has been seen, cannot be unseen.

  6. Type 1 Diabetes is actually an autoimmune disease where the insulin producing cells in the pancreas are attacked and destroyed by the immune system.

Sadly, we will see more of this disease as the Covid 19 vaccine seems to trigger the development of Type 1 Diabetes in those with a genetic predisposition for the disease.

I hear you. Same. But I got it super late at age 24. I was a freak show- docs were coming into my hospital room staring at me like I was a cartouche.

    Shadaaaaap. lol

Anyway, I’m not a fan of this doll. I get why it was made, but I wouldn’t want it.

Also, where are the bruises and scraped skin from all the tape you have to put on when the damned pump dislodges? And that cute lil bag her blood sugar monitor is in? Please. We have to carry a giant bag with some kind of sugar for emergencies, a snack, a phone, a triple A battery, extra set of whatevers for this and that, emergency cards. None of that shit fits in that little bag. I call bullshit! 😂

  8. Idiotic headlines seen yesterday on MSN, the numbskull news network:

-Exploring the Elegance of Exotic Women’s Underwear: Trends and Styles
-Why Elephants Need Massive Amounts of Food Every Day
-Could Global Warming Start A New Ice Age

    It’s an idiot’s world now.

  9. Yep. I’m a member of the ” Barbie Visionary Club”. It just seemed right to pop off a Barbie head and wear it as a necklace. Please don’t ask me how I accomplished this deed. LOL! Might sound borderline psycho.

I would connect the head back to the body if I wanted to play with the whole Barbie and make clothes for it. I have a partial excuse for those Barbie decapitations. I was a unapologetic preteen tomboy at the time.

  10. Mattel has become Disney of the doll industry. There can’t possibly be any real demand for a Diabetic Barbie, but it’s still produced and marketed at great expense to appease guilt ridden, “socially conscious” progressives.

  11. And once again today the Babylon Bee nails it with: Nine exciting new inclusive Barbies. My favorite is #9: Irritable bowel syndrome Barbie: The first scented Barbie will be a big step for representation. Just don’t smell the scratch and sniff sticker attached to IBS Barbie, it’s a real stinker.
