A jury in a U.K. court on Thursday convicted a United Nations judge of forcing a young woman to work as a slave after tricking her into coming to the country.

Prosecutors said Lydia Mugambe made the Ugandan woman work as her maid and provide childcare for free.

Mugambe, who is also a high court judge in Uganda, was studying for a PhD at Oxford University when the offenses occurred.

Prosecution lawyer Caroline Haughey told jurors during the trial that the accused “exploited and abused” the victim, deceiving her into coming to the U.K. and taking advantage of her lack of understanding of her rights, Sky News reports.

Mugambe, 49, denied the charges. Jurors at Oxford Crown Court convicted her on all four charges she faced, including an immigration offense, forcing someone to work and conspiracy to intimidate a witness.

She told police she had “immunity” and was “not a criminal” when she was first arrested, bodycam footage shows: more here

  1. What is the UN good for?

80 years later we got Slavs fighting Slavs, China rampaging in the Far East, Muslims killing Christians and other Muslims in the Near East, slavery still existing in Africa and elsewhere, and so on.

On top of that we get stories of UN “Peacekeeping Troops” raping and killing those who they are supposed to protect.

It’s a failed institution, and like NATO, financed mostly by us, the US taxpayers.

It was a good and humane idea by Churchill and others, but a failure due to human weaknesses and evil impulses. Me included.

  2. The UN is just a time-wasting yak-fest.

Let countries go back to dealing with each other one-to-one. Or even one-to-several, or several-to-several. It couldn’t be worse than what we have now.

The US and Britain came to an agreement with the Treaty of Paris in the late 18th century. It ended the Revolutionary War and birthed the USA. It worked.
