Uber, Postmates Sue California to Stop Gig Worker Law

Breitbart- Ride-sharing giant Uber and courier service Postmates have filed a lawsuit aimed at putting the brakes on California’s new law that will reclassify gig workers as employees, potentially burdening tech companies with millions of dollars in new personnel costs.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in a Los Angeles federal court, claims that the law violates the U.S. Constitution because it singles out app-based gig workers and online companies for unfair treatment, according to multiple reports.

The companies claim that the law would deprive their drivers of the right to earn a living in the manner of their choosing. They also called it a “thinly veiled attempt” to target gig economy businesses.

“It irreparably harms network companies and app-based independent service providers by denying their constitutional rights to be treated the same as others to whom they are similarly situated,” the complaint states. more

  1. The point is to increase dependency on the State.
Germany did the same thing in the 1930s to strengthen the Cartels and Unions, making them subject to State control. Eventually they eliminated all the craft workers until late ’43 when they needed them in order to disperse manufacturing functions to protect them from Allied bombing.

    Nothing new under the Sun.

  2. You would think with the billions upon billions of dollars Uber is in debt plus burn rate that not only are all it’s workers already employees, but they are also salary paid time and a half with benefits, with 3/4 of them on workers comp and live in an Uber paid house collecting pensions. Uber is Uber’s problem.

  3. One of the reasons California is losing ground is legislation that works against the good and well being of those who support it.

  4. Didn’t 0bamacare do the same? It placed unique burdens on people with individual plans. And it caused employers to cap hours at 30 per week for many employees to avoid the additional burden of paying for healthcare. I have friends who cannot find 40 hour per week jobs because of 0bamacare – and I am saddled with a very expensive individual plan that has more than tripled in 7 years.

  5. An “irregularity” does not indicate “a” solution.

X is larger than Y. And? Is X too big? Is Y too small? Maybe both are too big. Just in different amounts?

Uber is like taxis. Taxis pay the government more than Uber. And charge the proles more, as well. So is Uber “cheating”? Or are taxis being “cheated”?

The mathematical fact that The Party always insists there can be only one solution (“Hey, Lord Hobson! How you bin?”), should tell you the answer. Even if you don’t have numbers for X, Y, nor “Where’s mine?”.
