Obvious question: If the auto-brake can be disabled, how can you be sure it’s enabled when you need it to be? Also, if you’d disable it to “prevent erratic driving,” then how can it be said the car can operate viably when the auto-brake is engaged?
Any way you look at it, an Arizona woman is dead because – contrary to what Uber and the auto companies want you to think – cars cannot think for themselves, nor can they make split-second, life-and-death decisions on a reliable, consistent basis.
I’ve been saying all along that the whole concept of the “self-driving car” is a death trap – guaranteed to kill people and for no reason whatsoever, as there is absolutely no reason on God’s green Earth we need to make cars that don’t require drivers. This is the most pointless technology quest I’ve ever seen.
But no, they insist! The technology is more reliable than human operators!
Autonomous automobiles are clearly the easiest and fastest means to get us deplorables to the FEMA reeducation camps, that’s why they’re pushing this so hard.
Mark my words, the next step is to insist that ALL vehicles must be autonomous for the system to work properly!
AI-driven vehicles are going to be a reality … bet on it
NASA is heavily involve in AI tech & are developing AI traffic control coordinated w/ ‘smart’ vehicles. the only thing you need to know is that this will be the future. when they eliminate the human driver they can much easier regulate the behavior of the vehicle
… speed limits … no problem
… stopping for a red light … no problem
… total traffic regulation … no problem
human behavior will be greatly altered by AI … particularly from a freedom of mobility aspect
Brave New World kiddies! … Embrace!
@ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ. Wont happen in our lifetimes.
computers were supposed to free us from paperwork too but they just made more paperwork.
Well, if you don’t like our new robot overlords (whom I welcome!), maybe someone will invent some new fangled human powered transportation. Then you can fight the power under your own power.
Brave new world of going through Chicago neighborhoods in your self-driving car as some of the locals find great sport in jumping in front, knowing the car will simply stop, at which time you and your property are easy pickings
You know auto braking is disabled when the AutoPileUp light is illuminated.
I can’t help but think all this ‘auto-selfdriving’ crap is really pushing man’s ability to replace what should be left to mankind.
Stop forcing the natural flow of life and invention.
The key to success for the self-driving car business will be avoiding jury trials. A couple will be all it takes to put an end to such nonsense.
And when you get to be a threat to somebody in the ruling class, they remotely crash your car into a tree at 80 mph and blame it on the car.
Remember the Toyodas with the accelerator pedals that malfunctioned?
Regarding “stuck accelerator pedals”…..a study was done and found that in NO situation did the brake pedal fail to stop the car even when the accelerator pedal was fully depressed.
FTA: If the accelerator is stuck, you should first firmly depress the foot brake, he says. This will override the accelerator.

So F-16, all the people in the US, including a Highway patrolman, died because they weren’t smart enough to step on the brake petal?
There are 911 calls with the terrified drivers trying to stop the cars. One was the patrolman before his car crashed at high speed and he was killed.
There a documented cases of vehicles being remotely hacked and controlled. Very scary stuff if done by evil people.
Trains have been around a lot longer than cars and fools keep crashing them.
We have auto-braking technology for those but it’s not mandated…yet.
Congress hasn’t had the time with all the effort to remove Trump, they are too busy.
“This is the most pointless technology quest I’ve ever seen.”
Only if you fail to factor in Skynet.
Maybe this wasn’t an “accident accident” and just the first egg breaking of the largest omelet ever?
Back in the late 80’s, my last boss was convinced roads would have tracks in them to guide and control cars someday. He also said cash will be eliminated from society to control crime with a chip in your hand. (I heard “control people” when he said that).
Both of which he supported wholeheartedly.
Even back then I told him controlling people like they were cattle will not end well. The Human spirit withers and dies when they are reduced to kept-animal status.
We talked several times about it over the years. I couldn’t believe he thought micro-chipping people was a good idea. I kept asking him why he wanted everyone to go to hell by accepting the mark of the beast to buy and sell in public. It kind of blew me away he didn’t give it any more thought than the sales pitch for doing it.
