University of Tennessee at Knoxville: Holiday Guidance Removed

InsideHigherEd: The University of Tennessee at Knoxville has withdrawn the controversial guidance on holiday parties that infuriated Republican politicians, who demanded that the campus chancellor, Jimmy Cheek, be fired and that the diversity office be cut.

The chancellor remains in his job and the diversity office is intact, but the website of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion will no longer be controlled by the diversity office. Rather, it will be run by the vice chancellor of communications.

The controversial guidance specifically urged people not to have Christmas parties. While the guidance was not mandatory and many at Tennessee were unaware of it or ignored it until politicians focused on it, it was specific about things to do and not to do.  read more

  1. Anyone with an iota of intelligence knows that diversity departments are complete bullshit. Diversity departments employ two types of people: morons who take “diversity” seriously because they don’t know any better and aren’t qualified to do anything else, and goofs who are trying to see how far they can go before someone calls them out on their bullshit. Amazingly, both types of diversity department personnel come up with the same policies.

I would fall into the second category – complete goof out to see how outrageous he can be in the name of “diversity.” I would think it would be a hoot to see if I could convince people to deny their culture – for example, prohibiting Mexican food on Cinco de Mayo – or see of I could make entire races of people willing disappear from history by eliminating all reference to them – such as what is happening to native Americans. Basically, by the time I am done, the only recognizable group would be white males.

But like I said, the problem is that the serious “diversity” people actually come up with the same policies, only more rigorously enforced. Yep, some places cannot have tacos and sombreros on Cinco de Mayo because that is racist, and we are busy scrubbing any and all references to native Americans in the name of culural sensitivity so they will disappear from our collectively memory. Try as I might, even a goofball like me cannot trump a true progressive in the area of abject stupidity.

  2. Yeah, it ‘s kind of like “Tommy Boy”, except with Affirmative Action. I guess you could call him “Uncle Tommy Boy”. And instead of nepotism, you could call.it negrotism.

  3. Sometimes entire Universities are complete bullshit.
Recalling the so-called “Rape” incident at Duke University, 88 “perfessers” all got together and signed a letter that condemned four innocent students to a life of misery. This wound up costing the University untold millions in a civil judgement, yet not one of the Gang of 88 got fired! Now THAT’s Bullshit!!
How many of us could keep our jobs if we cost our company millions through an act of such stupidity? I’ll exclude government employees because stupidity is often tolerated if not expected…

  4. What the hell business is it of a University to be telling people how to conduct themselves in their private lives, anyway? Unless someone is committing a felony or otherwise reflecting badly on the name of the school, butt out!

Somebody needs to look up the definition of “school” and “education”.
