Unsettled science: Scientists find hard evidence that cosmic rays influence climate

American Thinker:

The absurdity of the claim that global warming is “settled science” is obvious to anyone who understands what actual science is.  And now, thanks to a group of scientists at Kobe University in Japan, we have an example of why climate science is so primitive as to be a faulty basis for policy.  They have hard evidence of the effect cosmic rays have on Earth’s climate.

When galactic cosmic rays increased during the Earth’s last geomagnetic reversal transition 780,000 years ago, the umbrella effect of low-cloud cover led to high atmospheric pressure in Siberia, causing the East Asian winter monsoon to become stronger. This is evidence that galactic cosmic rays influence changes in the Earth’s climate. The findings were made by a research team led by Professor Masayuki Hyodo (Research Center for Inland Seas, Kobe University) and published on June 28 in the online edition of Scientific Reports.

The Svensmark Effect is a hypothesis that galactic cosmic rays induce low cloud formation and influence the Earth’s climate. Tests based on recent meteorological observation data only show minute changes in the amounts of galactic cosmic rays and cloud cover, making it hard to prove this theory. However, during the last geomagnetic reversal transition, when the amount of galactic cosmic rays increased dramatically, there was also a large increase in cloud cover, so it should be possible to detect the impact of cosmic rays on climate at a higher sensitivity.

  1. I read about Svensmark’s research over 10 years ago. These guys are behind the times.
His theory (substantiated with historical data) is that as the Earth passes through bands of high and low cosmic ray intensity the cloud density varies proportionately. The variations in cloud density affect sunlight energy reaching the Earth and also have some greenhouse effect.

  2. yesterday I was watching the local Fox5 News when the Weather gal came on & showed footage of the solar eclipse down in South America. she breathlessly exclaimed that the temperature actually got several degrees cooler during the full eclipse!

SMH! I thought ‘settled science’ said the sun has no effect on weather …. whodathunkit?

  3. This “settled science” mantra is pretty tiring. Not one person actually believes this. None. Sorry, not even the most dumb dummy really believes it. No, don’t even argue with me! There HAS to be some things that are just not believable. Chem trails, UFOs, no Moon landing, Oswald was a lone gunman and even Sasquatch – they all have a sliver of truth.

NOT settled science. For the whole of history, science has never been settled. Oops. Except that one time. Sorry Galileo.

Ok, so maybe the dumbest of the dum dums that have no clue what science is … I’ll concede that they might be fooled by this term. Sigh.

I saw an old video when Tucker Carlson interviewed Zach Petkanas who said that gender identity can be determined by each person and invoked the sacred term, “settled science” to ‘prove’ it.

    Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  4. Unsettled science:
‘Scientists’ (portensive self absorbed idiots) find hard evidence that cosmic rays influence climate,,, sure they did.
The same ones that think Stephen Hawking is a genius.
The only black hole Hawking ever knew of was his dunce filled diaper, the poor sad f*ck.
You want 10 degrees being a Professor?
Do what Hawking did, attend a class once with a cabbage filled loaded diaper,,,
PASS! now get the hell out of here and do not return,,
The real definition of a black hole?
    Oprah , Whoopi,
may have a contest concept going on here,,

  5. Just ask Nostradamus… every few years we get updates on whut Nostradamus supposedly predicted and oddly enough it always about something recent that no one ever heard him say anything about before!
BTW – Not to be confused with Henry Waxman or Nostrildumbass!

  6. Shocking!

Who would have thought that we didn’t already know everything and that science is constantly making new discoveries.

In the 80’s we were taught that natural gas was the cleanest fuel since it only produces Carbon Dioxide & water as waste.

Now the CO2 is apparently a pollutant in the 2000’s.

I bet in the next 20 years the push natural gas again as creating food & air for trees.

  7. The very essence of the scientific process is that EVERYTHING is open to question and revision, regardless of how obviously true it may be. That makes dogma the death of Science.

It also makes the term “settled science” an oxymoron.

  8. The Cosmic Ray effect IS legit science…. and provides one of many alternative mechanisms that affect climate. (As opposed to the Goracle’s Klimate Koo Koo hypothesis.

Stronger solar wind and Solar magnetic fields deflect cosmic rays….so at Solar minimums, you lose some of that protection, and the effect of cosmic rays is simply that they seed cloud formation reflecting light and cooling the surface. This effect suggests one mechanism to explain how a Maunder type minimum leads to a little ice age.

My own ten cent theory is that perhaps the Heliospheric current sheet periodically interacts with Earth’s magnetic field, allowing some wavelengths of radiation to penetrate, and heat the oceans, causing el nino…. which is the primary mechanism of warming.

But for now, we need to prep for a Grand Minima.. not warming.

  9. How does this affect the flat earth theory?

Also, will the giant turtle upon which the flat earth rests, be harmed by these deadly and satanic rays of…I dunno’, ….death and devilish stuff.

    Asking for a friend.

  10. Ah yes… it’s a “settled science”. A cute, little alliterative oxymoron to make shallow people who either can’t, or simply don’t want to figure something out, feel better because deep down they know it’ll fcuk up their simplistic agenda.

  11. How did they measure the cosmic ray activity 780,000 years ago?

Trails? Little tiny holes in the atmosphere? Ice core samples from Antarctica?

And before 1927 Pluto hadn’t even been discovered and homosexuality was a KNOWN perversion. Settled Science, indeed.
