USAToday: Kellogg’s Could Lay Off Over 1100

Breitbart:

USA TODAY reports that downsizing at various Kellogg’s facilities across the country could put 1,110 Americans out of work.

Kellogg’s spokesperson Kris Charles said the cereal giant will shift away from direct delivery of its foods to stores, and will instead utilize grocers’ distribution centers. The move will shutter 39 Kellogg’s distribution centers from Maryland to Ohio to New York.

“While this is the right move for the company to achieve our long-term objectives, it was a difficult decision because of its impact on employees,” company spokesperson Kris Charles said, according to CNYCentral.

Charles says each site outfits roughly 30 full-time employees, which means the company could lay off as many as 1,170 workers.

The closures “will not have a sizable impact on any one community,” Charles added.

The move is part of the Michigan-based company’s cost-cutting initiative, Project K, launched in 2013. Kellogg’s reported a loss of $53 million in the fourth quarter, CNBC reports.

  1. “shift away from direct delivery of its foods to stores, and will instead utilize grocers’ distribution centers. ”

What’s the difference? Grocery stores don’t distribute food?

  2. How come they don’t mention the fact that us conservatives have been boycotting Kellogg’s products for about a year.

I’m sure the boycott had nothing to do with dropping sales. /sarc

  3. NOTE TO CEO MARXIST SJW BULL💩ERS:

IF YOU’RE GONNA SPOUT OFF YOUR MARXIST SJW BULL💩 JUST REMEMBER YOUR MARXIST SJW BULL💩 IS GOING TO COST YOUR EMPLOYEES THEIR JOBS. REMEMBER THAT NEXT TIME YOU’RE TEMPTED TO SPOUT OFF YOUR MARXIST SJW BULL💩 YOU MARXIST SJW BULL💩ERS.

  4. In other words, their illegal immigrant workforce is drying up AND they jumped the shark playing their silly Social Justice Warrior games… at great expense to the company. The investors should hog-tie this CEO and let the employees have their way with him. There is an economic boom right around the corner due to Trump and they lost out. Smart money will go to common sense and sound financial practices, not SJWs.

  5. Hey, don’t forget Target.

Market value down about a cool billion since deciding that a dude wearing a dress has the right to share the same bathroom as your young daughter.

I know my business is a drop in the bucket, but since announcing their insane policy, I estimate that I’ve taken $1200 of my business elsewhere.

There must be a lot of SJW types out there with loads of disposable income, who will offset the loss of business Target inflicted on their own dumb ass.

  6. “The closures “will not have a sizable impact on any one community…”

Just a few here, a few there, in a hundred small towns. Hoping you don’t notice.

    Kind of like refugee resettlement.

  7. Target’s total stock valuation is actually down TEN Billion according to a recent WSJ piece. WSJ avoided acknowledging the Boycott, but that’s the time frame.
WalMart’s same-store traffic is UP by exactly the percentage that Target’s traffic is down.

I’m not in the food biz, but it sounds like Kellogg’s is ceasing to deliver to individual supermarket stores and instead will just drop off its inventory by the Semi load to the various food chains’ regional distribution centers.
Cutthroat industry with very low overall margins. Seems a risky strategy (those route delivery truck guys are Kellogg’s frontline “salesmen” interacting with local store managers).
Lots of ways this could go wrong for K, including that they’re competing directly with the generic House Brands offered by the chains themselves…which already come with a 50% price discount advantage.

The CEO could care less about the employees he’s firing. He’s probably already receiving a huge bonus for the cost “savings” of getting them off the payroll.
