Using the democratic process to strip yourself of the democratic process

Patriot Retort: Yesterday, Turkey voted to make Hitler’s Mini-Me — Tayyip Erdogan – the de facto dictator.

I have to say, that’s irony for you. Using the democratic process to effectively strip yourself of an semblance of democracy.

All it took was a razor-thin majority to deprive the Turkish people of their own voice in government.

Large segments of Turkey were vehemently opposed to this referendum. But because a slim majority voted yes, those opposed were rendered powerless.

In other words, making Erdogan the de facto dictator won the popular vote.

So now do you understand why we have an Electoral College?  continued

  1. Erdogan is scary, in a Hitler like way, and he’s just getting started. Europe will suffer, as will the middle east. He wants to be caliph.

“Erdogan himself was jailed for four months in 1999 after reciting a poem to a crowd in south-eastern Turkey – it contained the lines ‘The minarets are our bayonets, the mosques are our barracks, the believers are our soldiers’
    and was judged seditious.”

  2. Erdogan controls both the Army and the final vote count.
We will never know what the real vote count was.
But claiming 51% is all the pretext he needs.

Hitler was legally elected in 1933. There was never another election for the Thousand Year Reich.

Yes, thank God for the wisdom of our Electoral College.

  3. There is a word for it in Latin America, dictocracia.

I don’t know why the EU and NATO are treating the Erdogan situation like it was no big deal. The man is a megalomaniac of the first order. I hope the US has quietly moved all tactical and strategic nuclear weapons out of its bases in Turkey. He could make himself a nuclear power overnight.

Yes, democracy is to blame for Erdogan’s rise, however, there has been very little that could be called democratic about any elections or referendums held in Turkey in at least ten years.

  4. Let’s be honest. The self-identified Europeans have decided that suicide is the best answer. They’ve gathered all the materials. They’ve left all the doors open, so nobody will mistake them for locked. Now they’re just waiting for the perfect moment to seize them, and deliver death’s sweet release. The only question for the rest of the world, especially America and China, is do they want Russia expanding all the way to the Atlantic, or do they want Turkey taking the entire Mediterranean?

  5. The “Sick Man of Europe” has gotten out of bed and brushed himself off.

I’m guessing that the Europeans are too busy fucking each other in the face to pay much attention. May is trying to undo Brexit and thus saddle the old, tired, corrupt UK to Europe’s descent into the Maelstrom.

So sad. From the greatest to the least(est ?) in 200 years.
May be a lesson in there, somewhere.

    izlamo delenda est …
