VA Democrat’s Bill Would Make Owning Legally Bought Suppressors a Felony

Breitbart:

A bill put forward by Delegate Mark Levine (D) would make it a felony to own legally purchased firearm suppressors in Virginia.

Suppressors fall under the purview of the National Firearms Act of 1934, which means the sale of the devices is overseen by various federal agencies.

For example, to acquire a suppressor, one has to undergo an in-depth background check from the FBI, pay the federal government a $200 tax, register the firearm with the ATF, be fingerprinted, photographed, etc. The process takes about nine months.

Under Levine’s bill, H.B.961, Virginians who have undergone the legal process to acquire a suppressor would be labeled felons after the passage of a six-month grace period in which suppressors can be transferred to persons out-of-state who are allowed to own them, destroyed or rendered inoperable, or surrendered to a “state or local law enforcement agency.” more

  1. I thought that law was aimed at silencers.

At any rate, Virginia, just look to your north, west and south borders. I do not think that your neighbors are liking what is going on in your state very much.

I know there are a lot of your neighbors who are pulling for you.

  2. I would like to have him explain exactly how this would impact violent crime, and how much impact it would have by pointing out how many crimes have been committed using silencers that would not have been committed if those silencers were actually unobtainable.

Whether they were legal or illegal silencers.

But I doubt I will hear such an explanation.

  3. Seems as though the power hungry Democrats in this state are eager to step on their wee wees. I would say dicks. But these children sport wee wees.

Outlawing suppressors is the solution in search of a problem.

Pop the corn. These idiots are going to display stupid on stilts for the foreseeable future.

And as for you Neo carpetbaggers that moved here from your cadaverous states, and voted….fuckyouverymuch.

In the long run you would be advised to return to your northern dung heaps. This isn’t going to turn out well.

By the way. My firearms have killed nobody. Governor Blackface’s scalpel has killed untold numbers of helpless infants. He’s a soft spoken pediatrician don’t you know, who delivers babies and then discusses with the mother whether or not to club them to death.

“Is it true you can make a silencer out of a plastic water bottle?”

I’ve had some luck with the muffler used on the old Volkswagen. Just gets in the way of aiming through the sites. Don’t like the ear deafness at 120-plus Db.

  5. Every state in the union still run by Republicans needs to get an amendment to their state constitution to have a state-wide electoral college for the elections of governors; so this kind of shit doesn’t happen to them one day. The second these urban cunts put democrats in control of the legislature and executive branches, they go full bore to fuck everyone out of their gun rights, every… fucking… time.

A state wide electoral college would mean that the chief executive of the state would have to avoid pissing off the “rubes” in the “sticks”… or else.

  6. @Ohio Dan, The only thing I’ve heard bad about suppressors is that they ruin forensics for spent bullets by destroying the rifling marks on the bullets as the go through the silencer. And the marks left by the silencer on the bullet tend to be random, unlike the marks left by the gun barrel. Cops can’t match a bullet with a firearm if a suppressor was used, which is actually a better reason to use a suppressor to commit a crime than to keep the gun silent, which suppressors don’t really do.

Oil filters work, and you can actually buy a registered adapter to use them the same as you can any kind of other adapters.

But I’d be willing to bet the majority of oil filters that get used as silencers are probably illegal since it isn’t exactly rocket science to make a thread adapter to use them and oil filters are cheap and disposable after use (See YouTube for demonstrations).

  8. The dems know these proposed laws will have absolutely no impact on crime. The only purpose is to make criminals out of law abiding citizens as a means to disarm them. The real criminals will always have guns. And when caught with guns, corrupt DAs and judges will quickly plea bargain away the gun crime. No, the agenda is to disarm patriots so the government will have a free hand to impose a dictatorship on us all, with no ability to fight back. I wish I could be at the rally later this month at the Virginia statehouse.

  10. TheMule,

Almost any modern silencer, commercial or homemade, won’t touch or mark the bullet at all the same way a muzzle break or flash hider won’t affect them. Some of the older styles used “wipes” that did touch the bullet as it exited the silencer, but those were rubber and unlike to make the bullet unidentifiable. A poorly made homemade one might hit the bullet too, and send the bullet way off from where it was aimed as well.

FWIW, it’s perfectly legal to make your own as long as you get ATF approval in advance and pay the $200 tax (a Form 1 build). You have to go through the same process and meet the same requirements for a Form 1 as you do to purchase a commercial one with the additional requirement that you have to submit your design along with the Form (and you can’t deviate from it in any appreciable manner).

ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY is my stance entirely.

  12. Virginia lawmakers signaled fear yesterday by making laws to prohibit gun carrying in the Capitol and their offices.

It’s never been a problem before and carrying has been in place since Jefferson.

    Why the rush?

These c*nts are begging for an incident.

    They will be disappointed.

We will decide when, where, how an incident goes down.
And it will most likely be ballot by ballot. With no gunfire.

  13. Egads, it takes one whole year to get your legal permit for a suppressor. You get finger printed at the Sheriffs office and you pay $200 up front. You can’t sell it and you can’t let anyone else use it without you present. What the hell do they think you plan on getting away with???

  14. I laughed so hard when some idiot woman mayor of some place said that ‘silencers’ needed to be banned because the cops can’t hear anything when people are shooting and robbing. lolol.
    I can’t stand these people. I just can’t.

State your fake name or butt out.

Oh geez. Stay home Virginians. It might get ugly and they might execute you when you disembark the bus on Lobby Day.

My people will not shrink from this confrontation.

It is a necessary encounter. And will be totally peaceful.
    Do not cower.

  16. “State your fake name or butt out.”

Well Virginian conservatives were stupid enough not to participate in the last election. I can totally believe you’re dumb enough to walk into a trap.

  17. Funny thing is, in England you can buy suppressors over the counter at hardware stores with no paperwork needed. Their use is encouraged to prevent noise pollution. For those who haven’t seen them in use, they are still fairly loud when used but much quieter than without them. It’s not like in the movies.
