KFI: Triggered Vegan Poop Protest at Trader Joe’s.
A UC Berkeley student partnered with the animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere rolled around in animal feces Thursday morning protesting a San Francisco Trader Joe’s.
Cassie King’s demonstration was over conditions at farms that supply eggs to Trader Joe’s. Direct Action Everywhere investigated one of the farms and found starving chickens living in their own waste. More here
I shop at Trader Joe’s, but I never buy eggs unless I know their names, and their parent’s names.

Ah, the first episode ever of Portlandia, where the couple dines at a restaurant and is told the name of the chicken they will be served. Then they decide to visit the farm it was raised on, to be sure it was raised happily enough.

I call bullshit….er chickenshit in this case(in the voice of Foghorn Leghorn). A guy I knew years ago designed a monitoring system for the gas emitted from chicken feces. A huge egg farm in the state found that a set scat removal schedule was ineffective. They’d go in and find very little of the stinky stuff, the critters would then dump minutes after their departure. When the coup is full-o-gas, the little darlings don’t produce. The monitor alarmed them when methane reached that level, so they shoveled when needed and increased production.
