Virginia: Invasive Plant Can Cause 3rd Degree Burns, Permanent Blindness

KFI: The giant hogweed may look innocuous, but the plant’s sap can cause third-degree burns and permanent blindness. The invasive plant is so dangerous that officials in Virginia issued a warning to residents after thirty of the invasive plants were discovered in the northern part of the state.

The Isle of Wight County Virginia posted a safety advisory on Facebook telling residents that the “Giant Hogweed makes Poison Ivy look like a walk in the park,” and asking them to report any sightings of the plant to authorities.   MORE

  1. pbunyan That’s what I thought, too. But I guess the Hogg one is much bigger, because I don’t remember QAL being more than 3 to 4 ft tall. And it’s very lacey and wispy in structure.

  2. There is another species more dangerous right near Northern Virginia just over the into DC. It is called DickWeed (huseinobamanacous). It can burn your ass for a minimum of 8 years. And if you look at the female of the species (mikeobamanacous) if can make you go blind.
