LEE COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) – The Lee County, Virginia School Board has approved a measure allowing teachers to carry guns at county schools.
Board members voted unanimously in support of the measure.
“The only way to fight a gun if somebody comes through these doors with a gun to shoot our students, is with another gun,” says Michael Kidwell, Lee County School Board Chairman.
Lee County is the first in Virginia to allow teachers to have guns in schools. The board confirmed tonight that teachers will be armed starting this fall, as soon as October.
The board says the process has been a year in the making and has been met with majority support from teachers and parents, who want to be prepared in the event of a mass shooting.
“At least it gives us a chance. If we sat there and did nothing, I couldn’t sleep at night. At least we’re trying to do something,” says school board member Rob Hines. read more
How long before libs heads start exploding?
Thank you Mr. Kidwell and the rest of the board members!
It is especially good to read that the vote was unanimous.
I’m glad to hear that the people in the region where my mother’s family was from are still the good people I met as a boy. She was from Norton, in Wise County, the next county to the east from Lee.
Lee County, VA.
A place where intelligence reigns supreme and the school board is smart enough to know that throwing rocks or cans of soup is insufficient…to say the least.
“Lee” County is triggering
@larrytheenlightenedliberal:
And somehow I don’t think you’d feel quite at home in Wise County, either.
Common sense dictates the ultimate solution for protecting kids in schools is arm the appropriate teacher, coaches, staff members, etc.
Hardening Schools won’t always work. Not easy to harden an “Open Campus”, and the west is loaded with them.
School Resource officers are easy to identify and take out first. If the school resource officer is not taken out first and is across campus they need to get there, and then get in the battle.
Teachers are there immediately, they are in the battle and will save the maximum amount of lives.
I hope these facts of an armed force inside are posted in large letters in front of this school. It will be the safest school around – why pick on a hardened target when there are so many easy ones available?
I agree with Mr.Brad.. it’s about time.
Methinks much pearl- clutching will occur amongst liberal teachers afraid of guns and they’ll try to make some noise, threaten to leave.
I’m popping popcorn in anticipation.
@Hoo Hoo Nay Nay – You may be right, but at least there’s a chance. Lee County is in the far southwest tip of Virginia, between Kentucky and Tennessee, and is very, no extremely “country” in the best senses. People born in the region don’t tend to be liberals, and a liberal teacher from far away would have to be pretty desperate to move to that kind of place for work. Oh, I’m sure there are some, but I’m hoping they will be in such a self-aware minority that they won’t make too many waves.
Must be the part of Virginia with smelly Trump supporters.
