Waco – 25th Anniversary

American Thinker: This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Waco atrocity, the bloodiest and most expensive law enforcement operation in the history of the United States.  The gun battle, siege, and lethal fire have already been the subject of three commemorative documentaries and docudramas on the subject, with more to come.  The sad fact is that the documentaries to date contain major errors.  I know this because I spent three years in Freedom of Information Act lawsuits in a quest for the truth.

The 1993 operation was begun by the then-Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) and directed at a religious group sometimes called the Branch Davidians, led by David Koresh.  The basis for the raid was flimsy evidence that the Davidians possessed unregistered machine guns.  On February 28, eighty agents, backed by three borrowed military helicopters, tried to storm the Branch Davidian center near Waco, Texas.  Shooting broke out that left four agents and six Davidians dead and led to a 51-day siege.  The siege in turn ended with a fire that killed more than 80 additional people. read more

  1. there are people out there w/ better knowledge on this than I have, but I read (back in the day) that Waco was a BATF payback to CBS News for not running a damning story on the ATF … they decided to stage a raid to make it more dramatic for CBS coverage
… it went worse from there

whether or not CBS was the only news organization there would be an easy matter to clarify … I don’t have the resources or the energy at the moment … I’m too busy trying to clean the green beer off my tongue & teeth

  2. And if there was no Waco, there would have neen no OKC bombing.

But that wouldn’t have given Bill Clinton (read: the good Clinton) the opportunity to drop the gun in the lap of rightwing hate radio instead of his Attorney General who actually killed those people and their kids.

Whether its Waco, the Pulse nightclub, Newtown, or Parkland, the Dem playbook is always the same – blame your enemies for something they had nothing to do with and watch the media join in on the smear.
