Believe it or not my wife’s mother used to make that. She used to live in New Orleans and that was something she made. I guess her whole family liked it.

Paula Deen is getting old. And this should’ve been of those It’s a Southern thing videos. I’m not sure I would make a water pie or eat one for that matter.

Reminds me of vinegar pie, that my dad really liked to eat. I’m surprised Paula didn’t use two extra stick of butter in that pie, just out of habit.

I prefer my water in a glass, not a pie plate
… Thank you very much
(& bathtub beer is not only awful …. that shit can kill ya!)

Too much work.
Make pie dough with flour, salt, lard and a tiny drop of almond extract and roll out as usual.
Cover completely with sugar, butter and cinnamon mixture. Cut, roll or twist shapes to suit your fancy.
Bake at 350.
You can’t eat just one. If there’s a bunch of old guys around, they will all gone in 20 seconds.

Chuckie- I made a depression era vinegar pie once. Tasted like a custard pie. I liked it, too.

Gotta try that. I even like to cook steaks with butter.

I couldn’t watch it ’cause she said the “N” word about 85 years ago and today is Juneteenth.

Oh, vinegar pie- She has that recipe, too. I can’t imagine. lol. I will have to go check that out.

Refuse – you must have nailed it on the first try. The first one my mom ever made was so tangy. Second one, she cut down on the vinegar and it wasn’t bad at all. Definitely different, with that tiny bit of tang, but it was tasty.

The Gunny – you won the internet today. Hilarious!

MJA, coinkydinks!
I watched this very video last night and thought hmmmmm.
Bet it might be interesting with some lemon zest or….maybe just think of it as vanilla butter pie.

Stone stew can be pretty good.

When I briefly lived in Michigan in the 80’s I was asked if I would like a birch float. “Sure”, I said, so they gave me a glass of water with a toothpick in it. I still chuckle about that.

Interesting pie. I’d never heard of it, or vinegar pie.
Total simple carbs — except the water and the butter.
@Jimmy — Pie scraps! Whenever I make a pie pastry, I make extra just so I can make those cinnamon strips. Num.

It’s made just like a shoofly pie. But without the brown sugar and molasses.

A Chuckie and MJA, vinegar pie is good stuff or check out a recipe for Chess Pie. Thicken it with corn meal not flour. My Southern Aunt used to make this.
Lots of carbs in a slice of that pie. Paula scarfed it down and she’s diabetic. Butter is not her enemy, but everything else is a sugar gusher. Wish Paula wouldn’t touch her lips and face……
is that like a ‘Wish’ sandwich?
More butta.
I drink a lot of Blue Dolphins
