Wendy’s to close 140 restaurants by the end of the year

FOX Business

Fast-food giant Wendy’s is shuttering 140 underperforming locations through the end of 2024 as it looks to improve its “restaurant footprint and overall system health.”

To counter the closures, though, the Ohio-based company is working to replace many of these units with “new restaurants at better locations with significantly improved sales and profitability,” Wendy’s CEO Kirk Tanner told analysts on its third-quarter earnings call.

The company thoroughly reviewed individual restaurants to ensure they meet sales expectations and are profitable enough to support growth, and said that the locations closing are “outdated and in underperforming areas,” with operating margins far below the system average, Tanner said. more

  1. I like Wendy’s; for fast food they’re pretty good.

But to improve sales, they need to seriously improve their app’s capabilities, and their restaurant’s capabilities to service their app-using customers. Unlike McD’s, who will trot your order out to you in your car, Wendy’s makes you go through the usual drive-through process. The only time saved is you’ve already paid, but if there’s a line you’re stuck in it. Even worse, when a restaurant gets busy they stop taking online orders but the app doesn’t tell you that until you’ve gone all the way through the whole ordering process. That’s seriously annoying.

  2. As I drive around town, I see way too many “fast food” joints that already appear to be closed. When there is only one car in the parking lot at noon, something’s wrong. I hope it’s because people have come to their senses, but perhaps they just can’t afford to eat their favorite brand of poison these days.

  3. I think a pretty good case could be made around destroying a business due to neglect.
Watch the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.
The opposite is: If you don’t mind the pennies the dollars will disappear!
However we are not dealing with neglect. We are dealing with overt actions by this administration to intentionally drive up inflation and taxation therby causing a toxic business climate all over the country that is driving closures on a wholesale basis like we’ve never seen before!
So Uncle Al, while you are right to say that improvements can be made, the real problem is a government that removes money from the hands of the people and throws it to the four winds! We’re all being robbed blind!
Making the government more responsible and efficient will put money back in the hands of the people and business will thrive once again.

  4. Fast food joints closing is a bad sign.

There will be MANY democrats out of work soon, and they don’t qualify to do much more than run the fryers out there.

Besides this could be therapy. oBozo, Harris, Walz, even Brandon have all LIED about anything they’ve accomplished in their miserable, sinful lies. This is about the only way they could’ve rehabilitated their work resumes!

  5. I’m thinking that the locations they are closing are the ones where the “customers” abuse the staff and destroy the store. We’ve all seen the videos. They aren’t reserved for Waffle House any more.

  6. “….underperforming areas…”
    Meaning……?
TOo many FSA with their “GibsMe” hands held out?
Too much losses due to “redistribution”?
