LOL, one chilly morning my sister woke me with an early call.
“I got up this morning and when I turned on the heater it smelled like smoke, should I call the fire department?”
“Is this the first time you turned on the heater?”
“Yes, why?”
“It’s burning off dust, if the smell doesn’t go away, then call.”
“OK, thanks, bye, love you.”
What can I say, she was a cheer leader captain.
RIP, Alley Cat.

My 1780’s house must have been a nightmare in its early days. No electricity, no log spliters, no chain saws, no insulation, no snow blowers, no running water and the horse had to be tended and the outhouse was 300 feet away from the back door. And I think I have it tough, this is a breeze. Did I mention upstate NY??

It is a bit funny to see people in their ‘puffy’ coats when it is only 58 (I’m from Ohio)

I would welcome 60 degrees right now.
Here, the lakes are freezing over.

One January day in 1975 it snowed maybe a couple of inches in San Diego nearby NAS Miramar where I was stationed while in the Navy. It was maybe in the low to mid 30’s and the natives were dressed up in bundles of heavy Winter clothing. Since I’m from snow country in the inland NW it was no big deal to me, I wore a light jacket and a long sleeved jersey under my dungarees. I had to laugh at them since many of them had never seen snow before.

Just moved out of Florida to KY after 28 years and loving every minute of the cold, I’ve acclimated quickly. I have long sleeve shirts and a leather coat I haven’t worn in forever. I grew up in the northern MI but haven’t seen snow in nearly 3 decades. I didn’t even own a blanket until I moved here. I was at the point that below 70 was cold to me. And as a bonus, my county is over 80% registered republican so it’s very conservative with a church on every corner.

I was in Belize for a Christmas/New Year once.
They had a cold front come through and it dipped all the way down to the 60s.
We were walking around in shorts and sandals, everybody else had sweaters on.
Talk about strange looks.

While working at O’Hare Airport during a snow storm a high school student asked if we have outdoor schools.
Another time when it was a windy -15 degree day, a different California girl, on the train and not yet outside, said she didn’t need to dig through her bags for a coat because she was wearing a warm sweater. I told her the cold could kill her in 15 minutes but she didn’t seem convinced.
