Who are the Gupta brothers and why have they been arrested?

TimesNow: Two wealthy brothers of Indian-origin brothers have been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This was announced by the South African and Emirati authorities on Monday.

Accused in South Africa of using their relationship with former president Jacob Zuma to profit financially and influence senior appointments, the Gupta brothers – Rajesh and Atul Gupta –reportedly fled South Africa after a judicial commission began probing their involvement in corruption in 2018. A third brother, Ajay, is also wanted by the South African authorities. However, it is not clear so far why he was not arrested.

The South African Department of Justice and Correctional Services said in a statement on Monday, “The ministry of justice and correctional services confirms that it has received information from law enforcement authorities in the UAE that fugitives of justice, namely Rajesh and Atul Gupta have been arrested.” more

  1. There was a different Gupta in the Chicago suburbs, worked as a weight loss physician for decades. Got into trouble for insurance fraud. Before he fled to India he tried to sell most of his assets. He had 1000 acres in northern IL on the WI border. My father in law bought 285 acres for pennies on the dollar.

That asshole also released his exotic animal collection into the countryside. Made a heck of a kerfluffle for hunters that year…

In the Chicago area it was understood if your name was Gupta or Patel, or if you were Nigerian, your integrity was negotiable.

  2. The Guptas do nothing more than the Clintons, Bushes, OBamas, Bidens, Podesta and a hundred more of the political insiders who benefitted from huge federal grants and projects.

  3. “…Jacob Zuma, who was the President of South Africa from 2009 to 2018…”

“…the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa (NPA) announced in June 2005 that Zuma would be prosecuted on corruption charges…”

Forget the Indian Bidensons for a minute. I’m having a little trouble with the Zuma timeline here. And where does Obama fit in all of this? Because you just know he’s up to his purple lips in the scandal.
