Who will AZ Gov. Ducey (R) choose to replace McCain?

Daily Caller :

Arizona Republican Gov. Doug Ducey is tasked with appointing a Republican to replace Sen. John McCain, who served in the Senate for 32 years and passed away Saturday.

Ducey resisted discussing possible replacements when the senator was alive, even as he underwent treatment for a fatal cancerous brain tumor caused by glioblastoma, and criticized candidates outwardly lobbying for the position. (RELATED: McCain Dies At Age 81)

“They’ve basically disqualified themselves by showing their true character,” Ducey told a local radio station in Arizona, KTAR, in December.

Some speculate that McCain’s wife, Cindy, may be a possible replacement, although conservatives from the base are pressuring Ducey, who will go up for reelection himself in November, to appoint someone who is loyal to President Donald Trump to fill the vacant seat, according to reports by The Wall Street Journal.

The replacement, who will be selected by gubernatorial appointment under Arizona state law, must be a member of McCain’s party, and will fill the vacant seat for the next two years, until a special election in 2020 can determine who will complete the remainder of McCain’s term in the Senate. The seat will be up for reelection for a complete six-year term in 2022. more here

  1. You just KNOW the replacement is gonna be a real beaut because he/she/it won’t be named until AFTER the burial. I’m sure Gov. Ducey was already told who his pick was gonna be.

  2. Just as long as he does not do the Chris Christie move and put a Democrat in. Though Christie did it for saving his own political neck and not the good of the party. (EDIT) Yes he has to put a member of his McCain’s own party in. What party McCain really belonged to is very debatable.

  3. Ducey should not even consider Cindy McCain due to her anti trump posture. The last thing the country needs is another obstructionist like John. As McCain’s death comes as no surprise republican governor Ducey should have a number of pro Trump agenda candidates available. I’m sure that Washington has opined about a preferred list of candidates, however the choice is Ducey’s.

  4. No Sheriff Joe – lame duck from the start based on polarizing nature. Appoint Kelli Ward, who he is stealing votes from, and that will let McSally win easily. Whichever one proves to be a RINO (if either) is out next election.

  5. Right now on Fox, the $67K man, Tim Scott is heaping praise on the maverick of the Senate. The $67K refers to how much Scott took for his vote for brother Barack’s TPP. Puke-worthy.

  6. Hey Ducey:
We already have Romney coming in to take McCain’s spot as the Republican Loud Mouthed Stupid Pain in the Ass.
Do the right thing and pick someone that is NOT in the same category.

  8. All you need to know about McCain

He ran for the Senate in 2016, knowing full well he would be an invalid lame duck almost immediately. Nothing but malignant narcissism at the end

Didn’t always think this way about him. Last few years have opened my eyes; and maybe he really did change

  9. Heard talk this morning of using his wife as the place-holder for the next two years.
As a widow myself, I can state a new widow is not up to the pressure of any new position of authority for at least a year, if her marriage was a true partnership of love and affection. All kinds of time for healing and regrouping is needed. There are major parts of my life at that time that I absolutely have no memory of – not a good thing to thrust Cindy McCain into at all.

  10. Cindy McCain is not a wise choice asa replacement. We don’t need another anti-Trump, globalist-traitor to sabotage the safety of AZ borders. A Republican who supports Trumps’ goals and agenda to make AZ safe, prosperous, and smart again is best. Someone to help get rid of common core, Obamacare, and bring back 3R’s. Democratic party has been taken over by communists/socialists; Republican leaders are best for all AZ residents.
